I did get use to mine and now I just chock it up as another unique thing about my PT. If the problem is in the switch I should get it looked at as it might fail soon! If it is the ground then the moded ground Mean Grean talks about would cure it fast!

I had the multi function switch replaced on my 03 GT autostick - it didn't help. The light flickering actually appears worse.
Anyone have a cure all solution ? Cheers Trevor |

I recently installed the stage 1 turbo upgrade, and I no longer notice the lights dimming... Interesting side-effect.
The diesel PT's have a TSB relating to lights dimming when applying the brakes. The fix was an update program flashed into the PCM. I looked at my grounds. I don't see any issues with the stock design - at least from my electrical engineering background perspective... |

I have the flickering lights, and Stage 1. I can't see how they could be related.

Relate in that maybe our friends in DC incorporated a fix for the lights in the stage 1 PCM update like they did for the Euro diesel PT's! Would not be the first time they sneaked a fix in without telling us anything. My best guess is that they did not do this however!

I have had the dimming when stepping on the brakes since new, 03' 5spd. I had the pcm replaced, no change and SI and no change. I now have flickering lights all the time and dimming when stepping on the brakes, so now I have 2 problems. The dimming did not bother me much and the Dealer said they could not duplicate it, but the flickering is driving me nuts so I have got to take it in, this sucks! What I see on here, some are complaining about flicker and some dimming when braking. Am I seeing two problems or the same problem with different descriptions? Who has flickering all the time and who has diming when braking? Any fix so far?

I've got an '03 GT with "the flicker". When you're not prepared for it, you can most easily see it on long, dark stretches of road, just tap the brake & you'll see that it almost looks liek your lights do a mini version of a "reverse" high-beam flash. It's VERY distracting. Once you know it's there, you'll also see it whenever you use any of the power window switches while your lights are on and the car's running...the dash lights will dim ever-so-slightly as well.
Took it to the dealer several months ago & they couldn't duplicate it (nevermind they were trying to see it/duplicate it in the middle of the afternoon!) They did flash the PCM, though, but it did nothing for the flickering I did a half-@$$ attempt at just cleaning up all the ground points under the hood by scraping the paint away under all the various the connection points, but it did absolutely nothing for the flicker. [xx(] I'm living with it...but I don't like it! ![]() Good luck!!

I asked my dealer Tech while I had the car in for the PCM replace. He tested the alternator output with their test gears. He can't see the flicker but did say it my alternator could be the cause. He also said DC will not replace it on spec. I am learning to live with it and also hoping that it fail before my warranty period runs out.
