I've got an 03 GT 5 speed with the same flicker problems. No rhyme or reason to this problem. The flickering comes and goes, I can be driving down a country road at night and suddenly the exterior and interior lights will flicker for anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds. Could happen again in one minute, 20 minutes, as I said, no rhyme or reason to it all.
Decided to install the Sun Hyperground system last week. Info about my install is here: http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...round%2CSystem Hyperground install proved to be no help to the flickering light issues. This GT has been an excellent car but the flickering issue is really unacceptable. I am contemplating getting the local dealer to look at it but trying to get someone to see this issue during the middle of the day might be a worthless cause. If anyone else has any opinions or help I'd sure love to hear them. |

I, too, have an '03 GT with the dimming problem when stepping on the brakes (and also rolling up the windows when they're already up - thus putting a "load" on the circuit), and I have a horrible flickering/dimming (interior AND exterior lights) after the car is warm. Doesn't seem to happen as severely when the car is still cold.
Along with all this, my fan blower will correspondingly follow in step with my lights dimming and getting brighter (the fan speed seems to increase and decrease as the lights get brighter and dimmer, respectively). I've had my PCM replaced (Stage 1), flashed (before the Stage 1) and have installed the Sun hyperground, all with absolutely no effect on the flickering/dimming/etc. Also, the radio display (the one that shows the time or radio station number) does NOT dim along with the interior/exterior lights, but the radio controls/station preset button backlights DO dim and flicker along with the interior lights. Go figure.

Thats interesting...looking at some of the posts of people that have installed it on there PT...you would think that it also cured the common cold....[8]

And its not just 03GTs that flicker. My 04 GT does it anytime the lights are on. Maybe even when the lights are off and I don't know it. Have S1 and have done hyper ground. Maybe it time to change the Multi Function switch?
Drives me batty sometimes.

My 03 GT had the flickering light issue, so I cleaned the factory negative ground point to the metal, ran a wire to the head, the PCM, and tranny. That took care of my problem a couple years ago.I have noticed on the way to work in the morning several PT's at freeway speed with their lights flickering very bad. The stock groung wire to the engine isn't enough.

When I first got the car, I researched the problem and found some things about the ground wires. I printed them out and took them to the dealer where I got the car. The dealer took the car to a mechanic who added more grounds. That didn't help so I just gave up on it. It seems to be fine most of the time when it was completely dark and after the car had been run for a while. I was talking to a man at my church who has a Cruiser (not a GT) who also drives a school bus. He said the buses have turbochargers on them and will also flicker until they are run for a while.
Now I am having some other small electrical problems. My door locks don't always unlock when I turn the key off. My CD player sometimes shows an error when I try to play a CD-R, but will play some. One day my husband and I were coming back from a short trip when the car suddenly jerked like it was trying to quit, and it made one ding like it does when you open the door with the key in the ignition. It was only that once. It hasn't done it since. The only thing I can think of there is that hubby ran it too low on gas before filling up, so that it started dinging, not just showing the low fuel light. This happened on a full tank. Just wondering if it could be the Multi-Function Switch and how much are they?? |

My 03 had pretty bad flickering lights. last year my battery died and I replaced it. since then the flickering lights mostly disappeared.

I had the dealer change the multiswitch under warranty.....no change. Then I made my own hyperground kit and installed 10 #6 gauge wires with soldered copper ends.....no change. My car looked like an ambulance going down the road it was flickering so bad. Just the othe day I noticed it wasn't doing it any more (I had taken the grounding kit of about 8 months ago).....go figure
