Which one is the turbo up-pipe? Is it the pipe that connects from the air filter/maf to the turbo?
Yep!!

I find it interesting that there is not an uproar about the fact the UPP pipe does not appear to give the 20 to 30 HP increase that has been debated in previous posts. It sure was a hot topic when those of us questioned the validity of those #'s and were flamed for doing so, Hmmmm?

I don't know about the 20-30 hp claimed but I will tell you that there is more power delivered after install. I gave hyracer a ride in my GT last month and he was amazed at how hard my GT pulled, especially considering at the time we were modded out the same (except for my VAK ucp) so he knew how hard his pulled. I wish I could have taken a pic of my wife's white, ashen face when I tried it out after install. So to all you naysayers who think you know without even trying it, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING! [8)]

Hey guys. Has anyone compared Adam's VAK kit (both upcharge and intake pipes) to Jim's upcharge and intake pipes? They both seem to be great, except Adam's has a mushroom open air intake, and Jim's uses the stock air box presumably with a K&N type drop in filter. There is a difference in price, but is there a difference in performance. I plan to get an upcharge pipe and intake pipe, either brand, along with stage 1 with my tax return comes in. []

I honestly doubt you'd see much, if any, difference in performance between the two. Jim's stuff is nicely built and all shiny chrome, but you can get Adam's VAK in a rainbow of colors (love my red pipes baby!). One really cool thing about the VAK is that it not only comes with the cone filter, but you can forego that piece and still use the stock airbox if you prefer. I had it on my car like that for a while, then gave into the pressure (there's a pun in there somewhere) and swapped out for the cone. Lots of turbo music now, but if I ever tire of it I can always throw the stock airbox back in.

I've done the air box, done the cone, done the air box, done the cone and now I'm back to my modified air box with a K & N drop in. There is no difference in performance with either the cone or the air box. I just happen to like my modified air box with ram air and K & N drop in a lot more. No hot engine air.

I never suggested that there was not an improvement in "performance" just that the naysayers discounted the HP #'s in fact the naysayers specifically said that there would be a an increase in throttle response and quicker spool-up, not an actual gain in output but use of the available output! Jim specifically mentions this with his product.

On another note and not off the topic, I personally would recommend if adding the UPP that you have a thermal barrier coating (not powder coating, but it would probably help) applied to reduce the amount of heat transfer and I am not just saying this because the pipe is now metal as I would recommend to insulate the rubber tube also. I know that it has been said that the transfer of heat would be minimal but you would be surprized how fast heat is transferred to cold. I would also recommend the same for the upper and lower intake manifold. If you look at our engine compartment there is not a lot of air flow space available and the heat is blown right back onto the front portion of the manifold and accross the UPP pipe and heat soak is tremendous. If you look at the SRT-4 the hood scoop at least blows right down on the turbo and with the rush of air through the scoop and over the turbo it also helps (somewhat) pull heat out of the engine compartment while your moving. I wish they would have given us that scoop also. Just something to consider.

OK, I have been following since I got my GT. I know where Adam's site is but don't know about Jim's...

Also where do you get the downpipe? I tried e-mailing AMX1397 but got an error message.

I am following the mods steps suggested, not in order of course

Stage 1
Mounts
all others...
