Default Remote Starter for 03 GT

I am looking for a remote starter for my 03 GT. All of the aftermarket ones requires a hidden key in the steering column. That seems to defeat the purpose of the built in anti-theft feature. I saw a Mopar accessory catalog the other day, and it had a factory remote starter kit for all 04 models. Does anyone know anything about this kit? Will it fit a 03 GT? [8)]

I have a Viper 791, with a transponder (hidden key). The transponder is hidden and very hard to get to if someone were to try to get at it. If I remote started my PT and someone tried to open the door, the alarm would go off. If someone broke the window, the alarm would go off, due to a shock sensor. If someone forced open the hood, the alarm would go off, due to a hood sensor. If someone were able to get into the car if it was still running via remote start and put in drive, the engine would stop.

The factory alarm does not have a shock sensor, hood sensor, and I believe, no sensor if the door is opened.

The Viper 791 has a max range of 1/4 mile, under PERFECT conditions. I've been able to remote start my vehicle from 2 blocks away with several buildings in the way.

I understand the kill functions of the remote starter. The thing I am concerned about is the fact that the transponder is available to aid in the starting of the car. Around here (Detroit), the punks bust the column, and bypass the lock. Without the transponder, the car won’t start. With it in the column, they are gone.

I am not really interested in a full-blown alarm system, with shock sensors and door sensors. Just a remote starter.

Question here re: transponder
When they use the bypass module, do they remove the chip from the key or do they just place the whole key in the bypass module? Don't you still need the key to be inserted into the ignition AFTER it is remotely started to drive away?
Thanks,
KB

The mopar kit has an antenna system that wraps around the SKIM receiver antenna. When you start it regular, it reads off the key, like normal. When you do a remote start, a module sends a signal to the SKIM module just like a key would. This signal is only sent when you use the remote start, so some one can't bust into the column and drive off with a screw driver. Very innovative system. The Mopar system is pretty much plug in except for a couple wires you have to hardwire in, like a brake signal, parking lights, horn, a ground, and a tach signal. I've put a few in at work. They're nice, but because it is a plug and play system, I am not sure if it will work for 03's, but it may if all the connectors are the same, along with the wiring systems.

Sounds interesting Bigtommy. Got a brochure about the remote starter and knew it didn't need the key, but didn't know it was so nice and plug and play. Do you think it would work on a '04 GT? And how much does it usually run. I know all dealers charge different, but how much does your dealership charge? Thanks.

List price is 100 for the module, 199 for the install kit. I think a normal install fee would be 1.5 to 2.5 hours. So, for us at 82 an hour would be 123 to 205 for install. You could try tackling it yourself, if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. For 500 it is kinda steep, but there is a warranty, usually a 1 year, 12k, unless installed when brand new (for other people, because you already have your car) then it has a 3/36. A lot of people bury it into the price of their new car. So it costs, really nothing if you can deal. And, maybe tthrift tommy can deal, like he does everything else, and you can take it into a dealer to install you aren't comfortable with it. That'd save you some money. It'll work for the 04 GT's, so long as it is an automatic.
