Default Motormount Questions

Gang,

I posted this question under the "Picked up .5 in the 1/4 mile...." thread. I'm sure I'll get more views under a new title.

What difference will the upper motor mount from exhaust depot make?
I am hoping it will make my car vibrate less. That's what it's for, right?

Thanks.

No I don't think so. I beleive it's firmer, therefore it potentially increases vibration. If all you want is less vibration this is not the solution for you.

AH! Well, I may not be using it if it increases vibration. I swear someone explained it to me as a vibration reducing device.

Oh, well.

The aftermarket motor mounts are meant to increase firmness over the stock motor mounts. This is done for performance reasons, definitely not for comfort.

The stock motor mounts are softer in order to absorb vibration, and prevent that from transferring to the occupants.

Is your engine possibly running poorly causing unusual vibration? I think the GT runs fairly smooth aided by the balance shafts. I had a GM 2.5L 4 that was a rattle can by comparison.

The motormount updates prevent vibration through the wheels and engine/tranny assembly, holding it more solidly to the car. This prevents wheel hop or "vibration" on take off if that is the vibration you are talking about. Otherwise, yes, at idle, you can feel more vibration through the vehicle.

aurthur the upper motor mount is a soild mount with very little movement in it. this will decrease wheel hop in the car but will INCREASE the in cabin vibration you feel at idle. this is a performance upgrade and sometimes that has a comfort trade off. i hope i have answered your question if not feel free to call me.

Tommy and gang,

Thanks for answering my question. I was hoping to lose some of the shaking and rattling while I'm at idle. Guess this isn't the way to go.

Any other ideas or is this just typical 4cyl behavoir?

Yeah, I don't understand it either. Both my old 2001 Touring and my new 2004 GT are smooth as silk at idle. Have you checked your plugs and wires? Maybe a damaged mount?

The dash and steering wheel vibrate at idle, it's a slight thing, but fairly annoying. I've been in other 4cyls. and it seems to be pretty typical.

That's why so many people prefer the smoothness of a 6 or 8.
