Default Turbo bites the dust

In an earlier post, I noted that the local DC was replacing the planetary gears in my tranny, under warranty. During the test drive, the tech heard a turbo whine and according to the service manager, after discussion with DC, they are replacing the turbo so I won't see this tangerine baby of mine until Monday. My problem is, this car has never been abused, cool-down after a hard run always accomplished...............so what gives. Turbo and tranny problem in an 03 Dreamcruiser with 17K miles. [:I]

The fact that it has Stage I never surfaced.....

Just curious, were you running with a synthetic oil?

IMHO in that short of time something went terribly wrong at the manufactures end! Short of running the turbo dry I can't imagine how in just 17,000 miles it could be hurt so bad.

at the risk of making this thread explode, my personal opinion is NO Pennsoil! My background is turning wrenches for 15 years, hanging out at a few machine shops and seeing the inside of many motors. Valvoline, or synthetic, period.

The Pennzoil's not nearly as dangerous as the Fram filter. The price isn't the only thing cheap about Fram filters. Just proves that marketing means more than quality to most of the American public. [V]

Hey purple04, where'd you get your "all red taillights"? Oh, and nothing but Mobil 1 oil and filters for my baby!

Bob:

Sorry for the misfortune. I have a DC 2 with 12,000 miles, 4 oil/filter changes so far, no other issues. Valvoline only for me. I would appreciate any word you could share regarding a prognosis from DC on this failure. Thank you, and good luck. (I'm not surprised about Stage 1 un-noticed by the dealer...most dealers have no idea what it is!)

Guys, let's eb realistic. Unless the Pennzoil he was putting in was full of metal shavings, and the Fram filter was running on bypass the whole time, there is no way those things could have caused his problem. I agree that it was probably a manufacturing defect of some sort.
