Thanks, PTurbed! I am learning a lot so far.

When we did the test drive, the car seemed to have more pep than it has since. And the fumes that come out when backing it out of the garage are unbelievable.

No no people! Please stop being cheap with your turbos! It's only a couple of cents more per gallon for god's sake! What are you going to pay extra? Even if the car was bone dry and you filled it up, it would only be about an extra $3. Most of you would only pay about $1 or $1.50 more. When you open the fuel door it even says "premium fuel recommended". Turbo's are octane hungry. In using cheap regular fuel the PCM has to compensate and you end up losing power. My GT is much happier with premium. Every once in awhile I'll throw in an octane boost, and the turbo really gets happy. I don't mean to be critical of anyone, but why would you spend so much money on a GT and then put the cheap stuff in? I have always used premium in all my cars except my 2001 PT because the manual only recommended regular. With my other cars. I always used Amoco Ultimate; it's just a cleaner gas compared to regular. I'm happy that in NY the premium is 93 octane. Please no one take it personal, but you gotta treat your car right. The manual even recommends premium. Use it! An extra dollar or two is not going to kill you or burn a hole in your pocket.

How sad Sell it and buy a Turbo Lite. You think there is no problem. Your computer is retarding the timing and that is costing you power. How sad some people will be so cheap so as to save a few dollars. [xx(]

I have to agree with Mean Green and Sugamer , I live in NY and track each and every tank of gas. Never ran regular in my GT . As a matter of fact I can tell you that if I drop to 91 octane that I will lose 1 to 2 mpg in my normal driving . My GT seems to run best on Sunoco 93 , Hess 93 gives a slight drop , but not as much as the drop to 91 octane. I also agree with the points about cost per fill-up . I made those same calculations before buying the GT way back in February of '03. If you can't justify the cost then get a turbo-lite or na.

Found this link on the web. This should help us all decide which fuel is best for our cars, and we all want that, right?

Thanks for the website. It is informative. Nevertheless, the owner's manual states n/a PT's use regular, turbos use premium. That's what I have done since day 1, and I will continue to use premium. I'm not dumping a major portion of my pay on my GT just to be cheap and put in regular. Also, I am about to start some power mods, and Junior will need the best gas available to maximize the results. I used to look for cheaper priced premium until I woke up and realized that Amoco ulitmate (what I use now) would only result in less than 30 cents per fill up! It's been only the good stuff for my baby since!

I have been using 91 octane in my N/A PT for about a year and a half now. I notice a difference... every so slight difference, but it's there. The engine seems to like it better, and from what I've heard and read, the higher octane creates more heat, and requires less fuel, and is better all around for the engine. I figure a couple bucks extra
I have to differ in all racing I have done the higher the octane the colder it burns. If you ever get the chance to be really close to a drag car after its pass check the carb and see how cold it is and what the engine temp is

I've only been using mid-grade and premium (depending on price) in my N/A 2002. After seeing that site, I may not use Premium any more. I plan to add more power mods as well, (Good Hood, catback exhaust) but hopefully they should not force me to use Premium. However, when I put Premium in my car, I get much better (seat of the pants) performance. The cars feels quicker and responds faster when I throttle up. Is this bad for the engine? Can I get that same response if I recalibrate the computer (Disconnect the battery for 5 min.) and only use reg. unleaded or midgrade gas? [:I]
