back a few years ago, if you had a turbo, you had to buy turbo approved oil. is oil now just oil, or am i going to have to find turbo approved oil? I see alot of you talking about Mobil1 but I cannot get Mobil1 here..

I would reccomend any high quality fully synthetic oil. Mobil1 is good stuff, if you cant buy it locally, Im sure you can find it online. Redline is good too. I guess you dont really need synthetic, but it is better.

Just had my factory oil replaced (@1400miles) with Royal Purple at the Dealership. I swear by the stuff.

there are no dumb questions.. well I take that back.. there are but this is far from one.. but the turbo or longer lasting oil.. you dont have to get that... synthetic is good.. but then you always have to run synthetic (so I have been told..) supposedly with synthetic you dont have to change your oil for 6k miles instead of 3k.. choices choices

my problem is synthetic is over $10 quart here and dino oil is about $4. i really donot want to spend over $60 (with filter) for each oil change. plus i've had problems with synthetic in my suzuki swift in the past...

The thing with synthetic is, if you are running really low on oil, you cant just stop at a gas station and buy a quart of their oil for $.99. You can switch back to dino oil at the next oil change, but you cant mix the two.

I have gone 4-6k miles on my supra before with mobil 1. Synthetic oil is alot better than dyno oil no doubt. The SRT-4 comes wtih synthetic straight from the factory!

True, the local gas and go may not have synthetic, but the number of stores that do carry Mobil 1 is very large from Pep boys to K-mart Wall Mart, heck even Shop Rite has Mobil 1!! Of course that won't help if your in Canada

and kgdptblue, you named it, im in canada. that is why im trying to find out if dino oil has to be "turbo approved" or if that was just a thing of the past. seeing as alot of diesel engines have turbo's would it be a wise thing to run diesel oil?

Diesel oil ?? hmmm I don't know about that.. I think as long as you follow your owner's manual you should be ok with dino oil. just be sure to change it at least every 3000 mi. and let that engine idle after a hard run I think 2 to 3 minutes. Don't know about Canada but my owner's manual came with yellow 3x5 cards with updates that didn't make it in the man. One update was concerning idle time after driving. I don't have the info available here but I'm sure someone had it memorized.
