Default Is the BOV important with S1?

Having S1 installed and my guy is telling me that I might want to consider having the BOV put on at the same time. I have heard people say that you can hear the pop, don't want an annoying sound under my hood. Can someone give me the pro's and con's of this add on? Thanks Gary

its just a sound when you let go of the gas when it is under boost. if you dont want it, just simply dont do it. but its a nice way to let people know you got a turbo. and its fun.

The Mopar BOV is just a noise maker, no performance gains. You will only need an aftermarket BOV if you plan on upping the boost past Stage 1 levels. The stock surge valve will leak at high boost.

Hey, turbomangt, it is only a $69 part (Mopar BOV), and, I would go with it...UNLESS you don't want to hear the "Psssssssssssssssst" sound everytime you shift. From all that I have read, there is little or no performance gain from adding a BOV but it "may" increase the longevity of turbo engine life. Good luck. [8]

PS: If you decide to have a BOV installed on your car make sure high-temperature gasket sealant ($6 at NAPA) is used on both sides of it to insure it will not leak. I have read that by doing this you "may" gain as much as 2 pounds boost. [8D]

Now I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to hear the pssssssssssssst every time I shift for sure, it will drive me nuts. LIke the idea about the turbo life. man, why is this NOT easy. Gary

Gary, since you don't want the noise and that is primary "benefit" it adds, I would stay away from that mod if I were you.

Gary, the pssst they are talking about is pretty cool. I doubt if you would hear it much if you're a "window's up, radio on" sorta guy. If you're the windows down type, you will definately hear it. It sounds pretty cool, just a nice hiss, and you will definately get some good feedback at your next Cruiser get together. I would go for it. For $70, why not?

Gary
Are you the first kid on your cruiser block ( club ) to get S1 with the BOV valve ?
It all depends on how much boost you have when you back off of the gass when you shift. If your a smooth shifter you will hear it less often. I would think that it tends to be a little quieter in the 5 SPD due to the lower boost in our 1st gear compared to the autostick's 1st gear.
It's fun when your passing another car or a group of people
" hanging out " and all you have to do is give it a little gas and then back off to make the Pssssst sound. They don't expect it to come from a PT Cruiser.
Maby there is an SRT4 owner with the same BOV mod, same engine in your area .

Gary

You already have a BOV in a way, when you lift the solenoid ports vacuum on the diaphragm on the turbo and it releases the presure into your air box. Hence it is quiet. THe bov is simply a plate with passage ways machined in it which bolts to the turbo. It release the pressure to atmosphere instead of your air box. Hence more noise

I think you are the type who would like it, my wife drives our PT and enjoys the whissssh when she hammers it and lifts on the throttle.
