For manuals, use a good grade of synthetic.
For auto, change it even more often than recomended and think about adding a larger capacity cooler. There are additives available but I don't know much about them. [:I]

From all I have heard, (try a search on the topic) you should really use the Mopar fluid. I am a fan of AmsOil, but Apparently Mopar has special ingredients to keep the transmission working properly. From what I read, they have had failures in the early units, and the additives are essential to longevity.

Should do a flush - just draining leaves some "old" behind. ATF+4 is required, but ATF+5 supercedes ATF + 4.
I had mine flushed at 50,000 miles and filled with ATF+5.

I think every 30,000 miles should be changed and a new filter installed. Flushing is better than changing but changing this often should be fine too. When they flush do they change the filter? Valvoline makes the ATF for Mopar. They have it available to the aftermarket. It's part number VAL324 Valvoline MaxLife ATF. Retail cost should be around $2.50 per quart. It is rated at ATF 4.
And, I thought we already had a tranny cooler built into our cars, right or wrong?

Filter should always be changed. Draining is just dumping the pan, flushing changes the fluid in the torque converter also.
Yes, the PT has a transmission cooler.

OK, I am REALLY going to show my age here. Back in the 60's, we ran a bunch of Mopar Torqeflite Transmissions and they all had a little drain plug to drain the torque converter. I wonder how they "flush" out the torque converter now-a-days? Do they just pump fluid through the trans cooling lines? Does that really flush out the torque converter? [:I]

I would recommend only using the MoPar ATF+4 and ATF+5 if Chrysler recommends it for your particular transmission. I would not use the valvoline Max Life, it is a best guess to the ATF+4 and no where have I seen where "Chrysler" recommends this as an alternative. I would recommend replacing the fluid and filter every 15,000 with no need to "flush" the transmission. If you have exceeded the 15,000 then I would recommend flushing the converter and then every 15,000 after. If you tow, climb a lot of hills or lots of stop and go traffic, then I would recommend flushing the torque converter.

I see a lot of dead transmissions @ 60k with the so called Lifetime fluid and the fluid is oxidated @ 30k, it is a tough sell to get the owner to change it @ 30k when the fluid is 30.00 litre but a 6k + tranny @ 60k can change their mind. So, pay a little extra for the Mopar fluid every 15K. Also, I would recommend you only use a MoPar filter!!!
