Default Sway Bar 01-03

Anybody on the forum knows the different between the touring sway bar on the 01 and 02 to the 03 OEM sway bar that you can buy from the dealer? I know the part number is different. My local dealer can't tell me anything about it. All he can tell me is they are not interchangeable and their mounting locations are different?

Thanks
PAW

As far as I know they are all interchangable. There are guys the have taken them out of the junkyard to put on their 03+ turbos.

i was thinking of putting a 02 touring sway bar on my 03 PT. Apparently DC had placed a notice to the partguy to tell customers their warranty will be void upon ordering of the rear sway bar. I been told by a couple of dealers.

Here we go again!![xx(] They can't void your warrantly because you added a rear sway bar!![xx(][xx(][xx(]
Ask them to explain how that complies with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
See http://www.granatellimotorsports.com/magnusonmoss.htm
If something goes wrong, they must prove that the installation of the non-standard part CAUSED the damage to avoid a warranty repair. Example: Engine block cracks. How the heck can a rear sway bar cause engine problems. The engine problem is still covered under warranty.
DEALERS!!![xx(]

Not only what Michael said, but I remember reading posts that some early '03 owners had window stickers that said rear swar bar, and had dealers install them before Chryselr came up with story that it's built into the rear axle.... right....

All the hardware and mounting points for the rear sway bar are the same for all PT's incld converts. The original oem bars are a lot smaller and more flexible than aftermarket. That's way the there's a big price difference. You will need the oem mounting parts from DC and a bar w/bushings. IMO, get your install parts from the dealer and buy the bar and bushings aftermarket, you'll be happier with the performance of the aftermarket bar.

I agree with topless if you are doing both bars, but if you just want to add the rear bar, the stiffer bar may be too much. These cars understeer a lot already and stiffening the rear too much would magnify this.

Here is my game plan to make my Cruiser have increased oversteer and reduce the major plowing to a minimum: Increase front tire pressure to 42#, decrease rear pressures to 36#, use stock front springs but stiffer rear springs from stage 1, increase negative front camber as mush as possible and try to increase positive camber at the rear, use the stock front bar but stiffen rear bar to 22mm (7/8").
My first step is to install the rear sway bar, adjust the tire pressure, and install the front strut brace. I will see what happens before deciding to increase front anti sway bar or play with the springs.

here in the great white north I don't think they know the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. All they know is your warranty is now void upon receive of goods. No use arguing with them since I have extended warranty on the vehicle. Might do what you guys recommended, just get the parts and buy the sway bar aftermaket. Can I just do with the rear without upgrading the front?

Stiffening the rear bar will decrease the understeer. Adding too much rear bar would cause an oversteer condition.
