Most blown applications will upgrade to a hard pipe because it will not have a tendency to ballon under high temp and high boost. While I have not tested the PT, many dyno runs with blown mustangs have revealed and additional 1-2 #'s of boost with a hard charge pipe. Secondly, specifically with the PT, you will notice that the plastic piece fitted in the pipe where the sensor is chokes down pretty bad. Opening that area up will allow better flow.

ran into the guys from prototypepower.com
at a show last weekend, he said his up pipe made a big change when done with stage 1, as the stage 1 gives your car more boost which expands your rubber even more. solid pipe does not expand ,hence all boost goes towards power. then i ran into a guy who said forget stage 1 and just get a mopar boost adjuster??? you up your boost with it,and the car hauls ass and your up pipe still helps still asking questions myself... |

If you start to mess around with the stock turbo. you will have a better tendency to throw error codes. The stage 1 elimates that in almost most cases.
People are adding power packs to the stage 1 & not having issues.

I have been using AMX's upcharge and intake pipes for sometime with no error problems. Had some problems with blowing the pipe off of the rubber collar. Resolved that by first placing foam double faced tape on the pipe and then slipping the collar over the tape and then tightening the screw ring over the taped area. I have Stage I and a K&N drop in filter on a slightly modified OEM air box. I have no technical data but it feels that the improvements come at higher rpms when more air is pumping through the system.

The stage 1 PCM upgrade is really the only Mopar perforamnce part that ups boost for the PT. It has a better fuel mapping and lets boost go up to 15psi from 12-13psi stock. The best part about S1 is that it does not use the TIP sensor that throws overboost codes so you can play with the boost all the way up to the end of the 2.25BAR sensor range. And beyond that if you go piggyback PCM." Yea....I was wondering what this "boost adjuster" was, too. It must be a case of someone only half understanding something that they heard. Boost control? Waste gate actuator? Certainly a misunderstanding of what Stage 1 is and does. |
