Just checking my battery cause of the error codes I got and I found a lot of white battery corrosion on the positive terminal. Never noticed this but since I have put on my lexan battery cover I have been a naughty boy and have not looked for about 6 mo!! Is this normal or a reminder my factory battery is almost 3 years old??[xx(]

Normal for a battery getting on in age. Those felt discs that go on the posts help, as does a coating of vaseline on outside.

rinse with water and baking soda to neutralize the acid.
i use a thin layer of grease and those little caps don spoke of and my battery stays clean now. its still the factory one, going strong after almost 5 years! (jinxed now [xx(])

Some is normal, but if it's heavy, check the battery and charging system. When stuff gets tired, the deposits get worse. Most common problem is when the battery gets weak. The charging system works harder to compensate, and boils the electrolite more.

You could also have developed a leak aroung the post. If this persists I would replace the battery ASAP. The gas that leaks from the battery is highly explosive and very corrosive. My son had one explode a few years ago in his 67 Mustang that he had at the time. What a mess.

Did that last night and toped it off with
Wd40 spray and wiped excess off. Will check again next week and see how we are doing. Will put those lilttle caps on when I replace the battery! Quote:

think I got an acid leak somehow cause 1 week after I cleaned it up real good it has a mound of white crud as big as ever on the positive terminal. Guess I need to look into Optima battery next.

Yup, change the battery ASAP, those gasses are bad.

Still have original battery after 5 years(01 TE born March 2000). Had same issue as described until I cleaned posts, installed felt pads, and a dab of vaseline. Fine since. Seems to be characteristic of the PT. My '03 Dream has been acid free -so far.
