My car is due to be out of warranty in 4k miles. I am not getting the extended and will let nature run its course to see if I will beat the average or end up shelling out more bucks than the extended was.

I did some pricing on the DC warranties and they are quite expensive even with the $500 or $1000 deductible. I don't know how much a tranny rebuild is or a replacement turbo but I figured each of these could go for over $2K. I figured the warranty wouldn't be worthwhile unless I had two major failures. Minor stuff like windows, radios, AC leaks would probably cost less than the deductible.

If I went with a zero deductible, I would have to take my car to the dealer for every repair. The nearest one is 10 miles away. I have several trustworthy mechanics that are much closer.

Hey Sawdust I think you should look at those deductible again. I have the extended and it was $0 , $50.00, $100.00 deductible not $500 & $1000. Yes I have the Chrysler platumin plan covers the car bumper to bumper till 2011 to 70,000 mi. I paid $1000.00 for it when I purchased the car.

$1000 is a go price, so much cheaper in the state. I paid just under $2000CDN with discount at the dealer. Did they apply a surcharge to your extended warranty because of the turbo. Mine price include the $140 surcharge.

Has anyone considered the economics of the extended warranty? I'll probably pass 36K miles in a month or so. I was debating the extended warranty because it is too early to know how reliable these turbos are. Normally, I wouldn't consider an extended warranty but this is my first non-Toyota in a long time.
I purchased one. I had an 02 non turbo and traded it for an 03 turbo.
I cashed the 02 warranty (7yr 100k warranty) I got an 1100 check back. I in turn purchased the 7yr 100k for the turbo, which in turn, if I ever sell, can be returned (pro rated) or transfered (a good selling option to the new buyer). It took about 8 weeks for the check! I'd do it!

PS the Toytota dealer mistreated me when I went to look at Toyota's. The saleman told me he needed to wait on someone who was going to buy a car and that they were paid straight commission. I told him, how do you know I am not going to buy a car as I left. Make a long story short, I went back to the Toyota dealer to show them the Cruiser......

heh, the chrysler dealer didn't quite know what to do when I said I would pay cash (bank Money Order). They still had me wait around for SIX hours before I drove the thing home. To say I was p*ssed is an understatement.

The Honda, Toyota, and Jeep dealers all treated me 'right', tis a shame I just did not like their cars.

Chrysler does not have an extended warranty product of their own. They are a reseller for a third-party insurer that underwrites the warranty.

You can buy third-party warrantees REGARDLESS of the mileage on the car. But... you will pay through the nose for high mileage cars, and the underwriter will want to inspect the car before they cover it.

Expect to pay from $2500. to $4500.

Anyway, the sooner you get the extension if you want it, the cheaper.

Cheers,

Joe

My extended is covered with the words Chrysler, and is to be honored only at a dealer....third party or no.
85,000 mile/6year....$1400. zero deductible. It's cheaper than a new auto stick or turbo.
also got a Geico extended attached to my insurance....$5 a month...100,000 mile and 0 deductible....covers even if I flood the car in a wash(that's a creek in Arizona that flows only after a rain). I like warranties.....especially when I am making payments.
