After you asked that question about the door I went back and looked at my picture. Wow, I didn't realized how dirty the arm rest had gotten, couldn't see it in the garage but the flash picture showed it up. Went out and wiped all the handles and doors down, sure made a difference.

I got my welts today and have already done the dash. I do have a question on the sunroof and the door panel. Do you have to trim the welt for the sunroof at all. I have found that it does not go in all the way around the corners. Is there a trick to that. Same goes for the indise door panel. Do any of you warm the welt up with a hair dryer first to make it more plyable? Thanks for any help....

I just finished doing the rear hatch door and the sun roof. I didn't seem to have any problems going around the sunroof or the door panel, but I did add a dab of glue on the ends around the sun roof to keep them tucked in together. Try bending the welt towards the way it will go around the corner at the point of the corner before tucking it under the plastic surround of the sun roof. The only small problem with the door is that I couldn't get the handle off even with the screws out so I had to tuck the welt in as far as it would go past the line of sight where you would see the end. I used a small screwdriver to go where my fingers couldn't reach.

Them handles won't come off unless you take the whole door panel off. There are 4 plastic welds on the back side that must be drilled out. I ordered welting yesterday. Went with light taupe and red. Figured I'd 2-tone it and see how it looks. Can't wait to try it out.

Received the welts by UPS and immediately went to work even though it was about 110 in the garage...Doesn't stand out as much as the bright colors, but it adds a little more color to the drab gray...
Great job, awesome look! [8D]

After much thought. I'm thinking of ordering some on Friday, but may just get a sample of the material. I now have an air conditioned garage( no more 120-130 deg temps..whoohoo) & the vette will be done soon. So I may actually do some odds & ends here & there. I was actually thinking of fiber optic or neon roping instead of the welts, but not sure if I want the glow( the stuff i'm looking at is quite dim, like recessed track lighting).

But I think the welts( or what looks like seat piping to me). Will give me a suble look. I really dont want the flashy lights on the car. If this is the seat piping this has been done for quite a while. I used to do it on some cars back in the day. When doing the seats I would do around the pillars, dash, console, or anywhere there were unsightly gaps. I just though people stopped doing this, because the "fad" went out of style( no more of the crushed velvet interiors, no more)

If it is the seat piping I can get it locally in any color & size I want, for dirt cheap. Plus I dont need to pay shipping.

Gary the piece that goes around the passenger side dash above the glove box...Do you have to glue it above the glove box to stay put??
The only place where I used glue was where the ends of the welting met on the left side. However, I did use some blue painter's masking tape above the glove-box area to provide additional support for the Electric Blue welts--this worked great.

The welts around the arm rest seem to be the hardest part for me...Maybe trim the thin edge down a bit?[:I]...
Trimming the edges a little does the trick [8D] and makes the welts seat properly and look good from all angles.

This stuff looks thicker than the kind of seat piping I am familair with. Get samples and judge for yourself. I need some help on picking out a color nothing seems to look good with that rather dull interior we have. HELP!! Oh yes I have the grey slate leather interior. I think all the 03 steel blue GT's have the same leather color interior.

If you have an accent color for your Steel Blue GT then I would consider doing the welts in this color to "tie it all together". [8D] If not then, if it were my car, think I would go with either Silver Metallic or Patriot Blue for the welts. IMHO, Navy Blue would be too dark and Electric Blue would be too bright and not really go that well with Steel Blue. Just my two cents. Good luck. [8]
