Yes, that outlet is always on.
According to the service manual, page 2570, the Console poweroutlet has a dedicated wire running to the fuse box. The wire passes through connector C104. This is a Huge connector above your trunk release on the driver side. (There are two, it is the right-most connector) This is the best place to do wiring, as wiring under the hood can deteriorate over time. Here is a photo of that connector from my power windows guide: ![]() Ok, so back to how to re-wire that power outlet. The center conole is on Pin 23, and is Red with a White strip. Here is a pinout image: 3 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Since it is unlikely that you will pull 15-amps from the center console, it is safe to move this wire over to another circuit, but if you want to be safe, add a 15-amp in-line fuse. The most logical circuit to move this wire over to is the rear-power outlet circuit. That is located on the same connector at Pin 22, it should be Pink with a Red stripe. Now that you know where the wires you need are you can do this step by step: 1- The safest thing to do, as written in the service manual is to disconnect the negative terminal on the car battery. (Or just be vary careful) 2- Disconnect C104 from the side that is attached to the car. 3- Cut the Red/White wire in two near the connector 4- Put electrical tape on the free end of the wire that runs into the connector 5- Using a 16awg wire-tap: Splice the other end of the Red/White wire onto the Pink/Red wire. Use a in-line fuse holder if you want. 6- Make sure there are not exposed metal that is connected to the wire (Close the tap, tape if needed) 7- Reconnect C104 8- Reconnect the car battery. That should do it. Last edited by zapwizard : 26 Jun 2007 at 10:58 am. |
