I ordered 2 cabin air filter systems from Wyckoff Chrysler for my wifes 07 n/a, and my 03GT. I was a little upset that they didn't have the mesh cover. The wifes 07 had the filter housing and the mesh cover already, and my GT only had the shroud and no filter housing. I found that Mcmaster-Carr had a carbon filter that can be cut in half to make 2 filters @ $6.73 each. I will use the carbon filter for the next change. Before I had the filter housing I placed an aluminum screen over the square frame and placed a thin foam filter sheet over the mesh, and secured with tie wraps. That worked great for several months at a time and was totally black when I changed it.The fiber glass filter in front and the carbon filter behind should take care of most air polution. The filters are used normally in a hobby spray booth and are 6 inches wide and 18 inches long.

The filter housing is behind the winshield washer reservoir under the black plastic cowl (passenger side). Do a search as there is an instruction on how to install the filter housing.

HINT;
I found that the plastic screwlike pins holding the top of the grill can be reached from the underneath side of the metal in the engine compartment and that by squeezing the assembly from underneath while unscrewing worked the easiest. The side screw because of its location came out the easiest.

anyway, i recommend installing a cabin filter. it's pretty easy to do and it does make a big difference. to save some money, you may want to remove the cowl cover and take a peak to see if you need the filter housing or just a filter. tip: the cowl cover screws are not really screws. they are more like push pins. they need to be gently pried/"walked" out with a thin flat blade screwdriver. There is a bit of a thread on this topic in the "General Discussion" forum. Worth a bit of an extra read. Here's the link.

I would like to know as well if there is a filter or screen of some sort that I need to be cleaning inside the car to prevent dog hair, etc from clogging the evaporator. I purchased the car used and it's taken five months to remove all the random dog hair embedded into the carpets.

Unhappy Re: general cabin filter question and installation tip

From what I have read and observed there is only a place to install a filter on the air coming into "the car" and not a place to put a filter on the re-circulating air within the vehicle to catch animal hair. Sorry but it seems that animal hair is a problem solved by others in their later vehicles.

Old post, here I go again.

I have the 2001 cruiser limited and today I just changed my moms 2004 civic hybrid cabin air filter.

I was curious to know if I can drop-in a filter for my car, without hacking and cutting or what ever to make it fit.

No problem on buying the filter, I get a discount at Napa Auto Parts anyway.

Let me know!

Thanks fellas.

If you get the filter, there's no problem just dropping it in, but a little hassle to get at it. It's on the passenger side and you get at it from the engine compartment. You have to take off the dark gray piece that's right in front of the windshield and around the washer fluid refill cap plus anything else that's in the way. The PT didn't come with any filter so you won't be replacing one, you'll be adding one. Good Luck.

Does anybody know if the filters and kits are interchangeable from year to year?
