Trick to replace the upper power outlet cover on an '03 GT?

Our puppy has chewed off the upper cigarette lighter/DC Power cover on
the dashboard of our '03 GT.

The parts department sold me a new one, but I can't figure out how to install it.

Do I have to take the dash apart, or is there a trick I don't see?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bad Puppy..... I have a couple of Golden Retrievers that thankfully have long grown out of their chewing stage. Sorry I haven't had to remove the cover so I can't help you there.

i would like to know also, as i have an eject button in mine

I tried camouflaging it by putting a cigarette lighter in it,
but the upper one won't light a cigarette lighter,
only the bottom one will.

I don't smoke,
but I don't know why the cigarette lighter won't work
when my cell phone
and other plug-in's do work.

I just looked down into the holes of both the upper and lower sockets. They are different inside so I guess they both have 12V connectivity but only the bottom has the elements that make a lighter work.

I put fake chrome knobs in both and take one out when I need the 12 volts. One says "PT" and the other says "EJECT".

If it's the same as an 02, yup, have to get the lower panel out of the dash.
As far as a lighter working in it, lighters used to come in different lengths. Mayhaps they still do.

In the old days, I could just reach under the dashboard, and unscrew anything. Now you can't change a lightbulb without special equipment.

Maybe my next car will be a 1970...

Ya, some stuff on the PT can get you riled. I just started tinkering with mine. My wife drove it for 5 years and "gave" it to me. Even tho I started with flatheads and 283's, I eased my way into these modern minimonsters on wheels. Give the cap replacement a try. It's a nice clean area to work in, and in a comfortable position!
