After taking my car in to the dealer because they didn't want to sell me the switch without checking out the car to see if that was the "real" problem. My husband found the switch for $35 on eBay and replaced the switch in about 5 minutes. The whole unit with the 4 window toggle buttons just pops off.
The dealer tried to tell me, it must be a problem with the rocker arms because there was still power to the switch. The cost for replacing each rocker arm was going to be upwards of $300 because they would have to take the door apart. I could have told them there was power to the switch since my back windows still worked. I would suggest replacing the switch and seeing if that fixes your problem. If someone had told me how easy it was to replace the switch I would not have wasted $60 and half a day at the dealer first for them to tell me it was something more major. |

i also had the same problem; just the front windows don't go up or down. Like everyone I checked the fuse( located in the interior fuse box.The 20 amp fuse on the top left, on my 2002 pt cruiser). Fuse was good Back windows worked and is on the same fuse? The only difference is the front two windows have the automatic down feature that the Haines manual shows as a separate module. I checked with the dealer parts dept.and they said it is a separate module, but check the switch too. Before I had the time to take the switch out and check it, the windows started to work again.??? Maybe a connection problem??

My front windows stoped working. They would not go down and I could hear the motor trying to go up on both sides. I read all the posts on the front window problem so I gently pryed up on the bottom of the window control pnl on the front dash. I didn't pry it off, just releived the pressure a little and both windows started to work fine until I stoped prying. So I would pry with the screwdriver just slightly more, removed the screw driver and now the windows work just fine now.

Thanks for all the posts they were EXTREMELY helpful. My rear, driver side window went down and would not go back up. I picked up a screwdriver, pried of the switch console (much easier than it sounds, it pops right off) and then unplugged the switches. The switch that controlled the window was filthy! It had about 5 years worth of dust and grime build up on it. I cleaned it off... made sure it "clicked" again. and plugged it back it... the window went back up... worked like a charm!

Mine just did this too (2002 dream cruiser). Neither front window would go down, but you could hear them both trying to go up. Some days they would work for a while then stop working.
I just ordered the part from 5-gang switch from ebay for $60 plus shipping. We'll see how it goes. |

Ours is a 2002 as well. did the same thing and I bought the 5 gang switch from Ebay. Fixed it right up. easy to change too. Should do the trick for you.

I have the same problem 2002 PT Dream Cruiser, 85000 miles, original owner - intermittent working of front power windows, rear windows work fine. No predictability of when they will work, does not happen very often.
Are the switches difficult to replace? I know nothing about cars, so please bear with me. Can the switch be popped out with a screwdriver? |
