Default Anyone know how an automatic shift knob works???

Hi I have an 02 LE with with an auto. I hate the shift knob on this car. I've seen automatic shift knobs online made for the cruiser and i just don't like them of the price. On my 06 jaguar s-type also an auto the shift knob doesn't have a button (solid wood) i was wondering how a push button shift knob works so i may be able to modify my shifter so i can put a manual transmission knob on my cruiser

To take it off there's a tiny little Alan Wrench screw under the head of the shifter. It's really awkward to get at but once that screw is loose/out the shifter just lifts off. Watch out for the stalk and spring that's left. If you look around there are kits that come with a new stalk, spring and knob.

Here's one place that has a chrome shifter for the 01-02 cruisers.

I just took the shifter kit off of my PT. Its reallly easy to install. I've had 3-4different knobs on it over the years. I'll sell you my kit much cheaper than what you find online. Let me know if you are interested.
