Default Can I remove the shifter bezel without...

removing the entire floor piece?

I want to remove the housing for the shifter, I have an automatic trans. I was afraid to pry at it, because I wasn't sure if it is screwed/bolted in or it has the same sort of pressure fit like the center bezel around the radio and such...

Let me know! It might be another piece im going to paint!

It's been a few years, but if my memory serves me right, I think you have to take out the whole center floor console to get at the workings of the shifter.

If you want to do that, let me know here and I'll give you the info on removing the console.

I believe there are 2 screws inside the cup holder in the front and also 2 screws in the rear cup holder. Remove the rear window switch (there maybe another screw behind the switch too. Its really helpful if you can remove the front seats too. Raise the hand brake as far as it will go and with a little effort and a few cuss words, the console will come out. I did mine without removing the seats and it was a PITA to do.

Since 1wedwudy started it......slide both seats as far back as possible, pull the handbrake as far up as possible, after unhooking the rear window switches, pull up on the console from the rear, over the handbrake and over the shift lever. If you have a forward cigarette lighter, reach under the console and unhook the electrical wires before pulling the console all the way off.

I tightened mine recently too, It didn't affect me too much. Worst case, you can't get it off, its no biggie because it isnt a lot of work to begin with. The whole thing is made of a pretty pliable plastic, so it will bend to accomodate some of the handbrakes lack-of-movement.

Are there screws below the shifter bezel that hold it in place?

You're going to have to just look at that, I am not sure becase mine is a stick. On the stick, the boot is held in with clips but yours will probablt be screwed in. It will definately be a seperate piece.
