Cool WOOD DASH TRIM KITS

OK! So despite some bad reports I went ahead and did it anyway!!!

Yes, I did it! The new black GT HO Turbo Vert, The Black Sheep, is a real automobile compared to the NA soonercruiser. With the tan top and tan leather interior, it was just screaming out for some rich wood dash trim to give it that luxury look. (No! Not chrome!) I will keep the Black Sheep stealthy.

I did a lot of shopping around, including looking a some customer feedback on the various companies, since the price was about the same on 3 sites. I finally settled on American Truck 'N Auto Accessories. The one big choice I had to make was about one of my top priorities...I wanted some door trim. None of the 2006 and up kits had door trim for the convertible. The door is longer than the 4-door PT. And, I was guaranteed that the door handle surround trim would fit too!

So, I chose to take a chance and buy the 4-door kit with the door trim. I ended up splicing the curved pieces of both front & back door trim, in order to go the length of the front door. Under the arm rest the joining pieces had very nice matching finished edges, and no additional work was necessary. Above the arm rest the running length required a short piece to be added; which was cut on a curve to match the standard door piece; but, this left a nasty cut joint line.
I threw around a few trim ideas, and finally settled for using the Chrysler Wing - the smaller vert roll bar wing - and trimmed one edge of the trim to make it look like it's coming out of the door. Not bad, if I may say so myself. One wish of mine would be that they made a 3D molded version for the center console.....but it really looks good despite the flat surface trim only.

One Remaining Problem: The door handle surrounds. As you will see from the pictures, the door handle and speaker surrounds trim is very narrow. You have to look close-up to see the wood grain. And the door handle surround is too small - even too small on my 4-door soonercruiser. Since they promised.... I am working it out with the company and their production plant. I really wish the trim was wider for both speaker and door handle surrounds - more like the MRK Group trim. I will report back on my success with correcting the door handle trim size.....and the company keeping their word.All-in-all, I am very pleased with the "look"!
Here is the link to some pics in my gallery.....I will post some more close-ups tommorrow.

Cool Re: WOOD DASH TRIM KITS

I just updated my gallery with a close-up of the Chrysler Wing covering the joint line; and close-up of the speaker trim.
I will update with news on the door handle surround at a later date.

Thumbs up Re: WOOD DASH TRIM KITS

FINALLY! Got the redesigned door handle trim pieces today!!!!
The designer at the factory ("Wow Trim") went to a dealership to custom duplicate the size of the 2006 and up (larger) door handle surrounds. After a month or so....
**They sent me two different sets 1) the thin design that was part of the original kit. I mounted these - as they seem to match the size if the other thin pieces better, like the door speaker surround. This redesign gives you plenty of room to avoid the rear end of the door handle, where it swings out.
**2) To my suprise, they also sent an extra set, that are much wider, but open-ended. The trim is open-ended since the trim is "Flat Cut", and therefore all the 3D curved door handle surrounds, when duplicated as a flat piece, cannot be connect as one continuous piece. I tried them on, and they seem to connect at the bottom just fine! I would worry a little about the rounded edges staying in place - the long-term quality of the adhesive tape.
**What a great effort by the Wow Trim folks!
Give me a couple of days and I will posts some pictures!
(Happy wood kit camper!!)

Cool Re: WOOD DASH TRIM KITS

I bought the "Full 64 piece Kit" for the 4-door. That kits runs $384; unless you buy some of the "real wood" finishes like the Real Rosewood I bought - $453!

But, it is really, beautifuly, rich looking!
