Default Wiring Lights to Amplifier?

Hey everyone,

I am trying to install lights in my hatch area. I am currently trying to wire the lights to my amplifier through the power and ground ports. When I touched the lights wires to the power and ground ports they worked fine. After I wired them to a switch and touched them to the power and ground I was blowing fuses. Maybe I am wiring to the switches wrong? I honestly dont know how to wire to a switch. I tried putting the power (going to and from the switch) to one end and the ground (going to and from the switch) to the other end, and connecting to the ports and I blew fuses. The switch is a 12 volt switch, the power wire for the amplifier is rated at 550 watts and the amplifier is 400 watts.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Yeah, find someone who knows "electrical stuff"!!!

Sorry, don't mean to be mean, but you really need someone who knows what he's doing.

I believe you cut the power wire and wire the switch only using the two ends of the power wire. If you touch the power and ground (or + & -) wires together you will blow the fuses.
