Frustrated with my gauges. help!!

I loaned my PT to my sister who just had a baby and needed a car. she had it for about a year then returned it to me last week. It shutters when idle, but im not so concerned with that as its easily fixed, but the problem is the dash console. She starts fine and the gauges are normal, but after about 5 minutes of driving, the alarm beeps saying somethings wrong, then all the gauges except the gas drops to zero and the console flashes the message "no bus". sometimes if i turn on the interior lights, it fixes it for a few minutes, but not long. The fog lights and horn don't work either but im guessing that's the multi function switch. i took it to the dealer and as usual, she fixed herself before i got there and they said they would have to see it doing it. they also said it would be very expensive to find out what is wrong and im better off finding out myself before coming back. Anyone else have this problem on an 01 or know what it could be? Please help!!
