Default Neons under the dash

I'm interested in spicing up the inside of my 2001 with some red neons under the dash on both the driver and passenger side but don't have too much experience with the electrical bit. I've seen a couple pics of this done on some cruisers, how difficult is the install and wiring? Any pointers?

Well I did Red led's that I purchased from Oznium

I taped the power from the cigarette lighter and installed a switch to turn them on and off.

Ran wires under the dash - Also went to the front doors
Ran more down through the kick panel to the rear doors
Ran some down the center console to get under the seats
Tapped off the trunk light and ran wires across for the pocket.

Installed
Under Dash
Under seats
All Doors
Rear pocket in the hatch

Replaced
Map Lights
Dome Lights
Trunk Light

Damn, that looks nice. How difficult was the wiring for under the dash? Where did you put your switch at?

It was pretty easy to figure out

Because of the led's I bought I had to make a custom hold for them to stay on which took the most time. But when I did my friends truck I got tubing and used zip ties to hold them up.

Wiring wasn't too bad and it was the first time I ever wired anything.

I put blues under the front dash last weekend. I did mine in such a way that it could be easily removed for resale (heaven forbid!). Bought one set with a lighter adapter, and spliced another set to that one, through an inline switch. The LED fixtures themselves came with adhesive tape for installation. (One set was not 3m tape, but an off-brand. Had to replace that with better tape).

I did the whole thing in about an hour, but that was only because it was a Sunday afternoon, I had drunk two beers, and was just puttering. Pics soon.

I've got a set under my dash that I picked up from Autozone with the shitty cigarette lighter connector, cut them off, wired them to a switch which gets its power from another wire in the fuse box.

Mounted the tubes using plastic zip ties through some of the holes in the metal supporting the dash/steering column. I also removed the valence cover underneath the passenger side of the car to make room for the tube, as there isn't much room under the passenger side for a neon tube. (Damn you LED users!) If you go this route, just remember to keep everything you remove simply for resale value if (god forbid!) you are forced to sell your PT in the future.

I'm assuming you've got a switch with some sort of light on it, correct? If so, the 4 prongs are going to be the power/grounds for both the light on the switch, AND the load (in this case, the neon lights).

Where are you obtaining power from exactly? Did you splice a wire in your fuse box? Or did you go from right where the cigarette lighter is? We kinda have to know what you're working with and how you started doing it before we can help your specific case.

What I did was run the power from the neon to the switch and grounded on the metal behind the dash. Then I ran my 12v (power) wire that I spliced into to the switch and grounded the switch to the same point I grounded the neon to.

I think your problem is finding out which set of positive and negatives work for the switch and which work for the load (your lights). If I were you, I'd take a battery with two wire leads coming from it, and hook it up to one set of positives/negatives at a time and see which set turns the light on on the switch. Then obviously you'll know which one is for the neon and which is for the switch.

Hope that helps.
