Default Inside Paint Job

Hi

I've decided to take a time out from working on the outside of my car and go for the inside since there is only a couple of things I wanna do. First off I own a 2008 PT Touring Edition. I would like to paint my center console. I want it to match the outside of my car. Which is some color orange and silver. I have a tube and name of paint the shop used for my outside. But where do I go from there?

*Do I use spray paint or a brush?
*How do I get that Console off?
*Any designs floating around out there?
*Time?/Cost?

I want to try and get this done this weekend. It will be raining here in Virginia so I have to fill my day with something.
I've read a cuple of post all the way back to 2007. I couldn't find the detailed one that candyman posted but I know its out there because I've read it before. So if any one can help with those few questions I would appreciate it.

G'day, SHE_SO,

If you do go down the paint option, you "MUST BE SURE TO",

Spend A LOT of time to make the console "very clean".
Use a Scourer pad,

Wipe all surfaces to be painted very well with Prepsol. (more than once)

Make sure you apply 1 or 2 light to medium coats of Plastic adhesion primer. ie. K&H (brand).
"THIS STEP IS A MUST DO"

Then just,
Base coat, Clear coat,
Add 1 extra clear coat, "protection"

Regards, Andrew...

PS If you need a workshop manual, You can download a copy from my File dump @ MobileMe - iDisk

Hey their she_so,

Here is a write up I did a while back on this subject. It is probably a little over thorough but is a very complete explanation of how to pull off a professional looking paint job, and covers everything in detail so you should be able to pick up the basics, and see where you go from their. Just as Charon already said, prep is a huge part of pulling off good results! Here is the Link.

Go easy, best of luck on your project if you go ahead with it. and also if you do, please post some pic's to show off your hard work!

Hey their DSM Turbo,

No problemo, Sir! I am always more than happy to help out wherever I can. Here is how you remove the center bezel for paint just in case you didn't already find it.

1) Pop out all of your A/C control knobs.
2) You have to pry out the window switches. Grab a thin piece of cardboard or wood and slide it in the gap between the switches and the center bezel itself. (Bottom works best) Use a flathead screwdriver and GENTLY pry the switch out. (First time you do it, you'll be extremely hesitant.. after that, it's easy)
3) Disconnect the harness connected to the window switches.
4) Unscrew the bolt at the top center of the bezel that attaches it to the frame of your dash.
5) Lastly, you have to pry off the center bezel, applying the same practice as the window switches. I have found it's best to work from the bottom edges, up.
