Okay, I just recieved the parts from Wyckoff, and I'm getting a strange feeling that I already have this cable installed, and here is why. This cable has 4 plugs on one end and 1 plug on the other. I've figured that one is for the overhead, and two are for the lighted visor, and there is another plug inbetween the visor plugs that fits into the overhead!
As I mentioned in a previous post, I found wiring under the passanger side pillar, but not the drivers side. I was told that the overhead wire was ran up the drivers side (but never got a straight answer from anyone), but I don't think thats necessarily the case. Since the one wire also powers the overhead light, it is possible for this wire to also have the plugs for the console and the lighted visors. I guess I wont know until I open up the roof fully, but had I realized that one wire is used to power everything on the roof, I probably wouldn't have ordered the cable, thats my fault.. I think I'll take this new wire and plug it into the left column area tonight without removing the roof and even see if the darn compass works. Also, I'm curious if anyone had suggestions with preventing fraying when I cut into the roof? I've seen on alot of older cars where the material from the roof starts to bubble or fall down, and I'm afraid that cutting into the roof may accelerate this or cause the cloth to fray at the cut area. Does anyone have suggestions to prevent this? Some sort of glue or tape on the edges? Thanks. |

glad I'm able to provide you with something you can contribute to quicksilverdon.
By super glue do you mean crazy glue, or is it a specific brand I perhaps? Also, the most important, I was just going to cut the roof with an X-Acto blade after measuring proper placement. Does that sound like the right tool? It seems to be styrophome and cloth, no?Oh, and the cable I was sent was the wrong one, that wasn't the overhead console plug after all, so they have to order the proper one and get it out to me. |

hey, i'm still here.
![]() I finally got the replacement cable from Wyckoff (it was back ordered) and they will accept the other cord the sent me even though the package is open cause it wasn't my fault that I received the improper cable. This wiring plugs into both columns, so a word to anyone that is curious if they need the overhead cable, if you pull off both A trim panels and you only see a wire on one side, then you don't have the proper cable installed. I've been meaning to install it, but it's a combination of deal in getting the cable, crappy weather, freelance work overload and general fear of cutting into the roof lining that has prevented me from installing the console. I have purchased all of the necessary tools as specified by ptdoityourself to remove the roof liner, torque wrench, torx bits, etc.. I have however removed both panels and plugged the replacement wire into the car and then into the overhead I received, and it looks to be functioning properly. I "simulated" calibration, meaning i turned the console three times with my hand at a slow 5mph instead of moving the car, and then the compass was reporting proper directions. (at least I think, I didn't have a normal compass to compare). The ambient sensor was reading a cool -49F, so I'm guessing thats not installed. I did receive a sensor from Wyckoff, but its just this little nub, and I'm not sure which wire on the front grill I need to attach it to. Hopefully I can get this installed by the end of the month, that is if I step up to the plate. I did however successfully install the rear auxillary power port

The sensor on mine is tie-wrapped to a vertical bar in front of the radiator, behind the grille. (stock) Hope that helps.[|)]

Hey, Sorry here is the part info:
Wiring: 4671525AA $45.56 Sensor: 56042395 $27.00 I actually went ahead with it today, took 4 hours and boy are my arms tired! I'm not 100% happy with it. It doesn't sit completely flush with the Headliner. I'm not sure if the precut headliner had more of a raised surface at that center area to help with its flushness, or maybe cause my overhead is a sunroof one, rather than a non sunroof, like my car, that maybe its for a different type, but then I don't think the console itself is an issue, cause that sunroof thing just pops in and out of the console. will post more later, too tired to type now. |
