Unhappy 2003 Touring 6 disk player stuck afer battery change...

I changed my battery and my cd player went crazy. It makes a loud clicking noise when I start my car now. It goes clicks-------stops clicks--------- stops then 20 or so seconds later clicks-----then stops. Has anyone else had this problem if so any help would be greatly welcome.

I just changed out my battery in my 2005 Cruiser and have the exact same problem as documented here with my CD player.
Perhaps the problem is related to the fact that it loaded with CDs while the power is removed?
It is Thanksgiving Day and I can't call the dealership. I don't see a response to this ...... Has anybody found the answer? Thanks in advance.

do have any cd's in it, cuz if there is one of them maybe loose. I don't know how that can happen but that could be a possibility. usually when the power source to the radio is disconnected and then reconnected the cd player will eject the cd. Now that's on some single disk players but it might work the same with a 6 disc. I wouldn't be able to give a full diagnoses on it unless i saw it.

Chrysler 6 disc radios, go into initialization mode, when it get power from the first time ,the radio believe that is moving from shipping mode and it is getting ready to take cd's

the problem is that the radio is FULL and when the head moves it gets stuck with the cd's

there is no easy solution the unit needs to be open and all the discs need to be remove one by one
most of the times the cd changer will work again but not always
i try this on 5 radios only 3 work and i was very carefull not to damage the radio i been into car audio for over 20 years , it was not easy

thanks for the response partyd.... now the next obvious question... how do you remove the radio and carefully remove the disks to try and recover this device and not have to replace it. Any tips you can share.. it doesn't look obvious and I don't want to damage anything in the process. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Also to answer the question regarding what does the radio display when it is doing "ratcheting noise". It displays nothing. Mine has only done it right after I swapped out the battery and then started the car. Then it did the noise one more time since then. When I hit the mode key to try and put the radio in "CD mode" ... it does not allow me to. It only now toggles through the two FM modes and the AM radio mode.

remove all the ac knobs, with a small flat head screw driver remove the windows switch there you will find a single philips screw
remove that and pull the face out, the rest are clips

to remove the radio just remove 4 screws and take the radio inside your house there are a lot of smal pieces inside

Partyd gave some really good advice. That's basically where i was trying to go with it too, but he has more experience then i do. But if your out of warranty i would suggest cracking that bad boy open so you can get your cd's out, if not then i would suggest taking it to the dealer and seeing what they can do about that. Taking a cd player apart isn't that hard you just have to be very careful but if you don't feel up to it then i would get someone who's trained in that area to do it.
