Default Has anyone tried this?

I am getting ready to tackle the job of replacing 3 of my dash lights, and was wondering if anyone out there has found colored lights to replace the OEM lights in their dash?

Be careful about using a blue light, the speedo needle is just the right color that under blue light it tends to disappear at night. Blue turns the red an almost black looking.

I recently changed bulbs in mine and thought that using LED bulbs instead of the normal bulbs would be unique. It turned out that using those that 1.) they were not as bright as OEM 2.) The gauges are already tinted green so anything you put in there is going to have a greenish tint. PT's are not known for bright gauges so I would stick with replacement OEM bulbs from the dealer. They are only about a $1 a piece. Do not buy cheap eBay bulbs.

The job of replacing the dash lights is relatively easy. Just make sure you do not lose any of the screws and make sure your dash pad has all the tabs snapped back in.

I put blue LED's on mine and I love the color but the guys are right about the illumination. You can see pictures on my profile. Good luck

I tried the "Cool White" LED bulbs. That is the whitish blue you see with LED applications( X-Mas Lights, Audi's). They made my gauges look blue. Depending on what model PT you have, you could get an entire gauge face replacement. I had this in my old N/A PT and it made the entire gauge face light up as blue or green. They are pretty cheap and can be found on eBay.

here's a good example. I tinted the faceplate blue

and this is what it looks like in the dark, you can't see the needles.

but this is what it looks like after i changed the tint to a light smoke color

much better

Thinking of changing my lights too, glad you posted this question. Had the same concerns about the different colours.
