Default Cracked Dash advice

Hi everyone,

I'm super excited to be here. Yesterday I bought a 2002 PT Cruiser with a ginormous crack on the top of the dash. Right now it's covered with a cover, but I'm going to want to get it replaced. I searched this forum but the thread on this topic ended in 2009.

What has everyone who had this problem done? Any suggestions on where I can buy a replacement dash? I see some companies have molded covers. How do those look?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ebay is the best place to get a replacement dash or cover, do a search for:

CHRYSLER PT CRUISER DASH PAD TRIM COVER PANEL MOPAR (original dash) or
Chrysler PT Cruiser Dash Pad Cover Cap (this dash cover is custom formed to the exact shape of your orginal dash and is installed over top of the original dash.

I just had the exact same problem. I found a new Mopar replacement on eBay for $160 I think. Install literally took 5 minutes. Easiest thing I've done on my cruiser. Not sure about those 3rd party covers. If you cam find a direct replacement that would be the better way to go in my opinion.

Very cool. I was in the middle of negotiating the price on the car (at a Mazda dealer) when they disclosed the crack. They had it hidden under a dash cover and I didn't think to look. I ended up getting $750 off the price I'd already agreed to because of the crack, so anything less than that is a deal for me.

I'm a chick who hasn't exactly done a lot of work on a car before. Still think I could do it myself?

CruiserMotorSports.com has very nice dash cover replacements, might want to check them out, $180, seems reasonable to me.

Oh, and welcome aboard!

You could do it yourself. There is a write up here somewhere that helped me out. The hardest thing is taking the actual dash cover off. It'll feel like you're going to break it even more than it is but then it pops off.
