Default shifter question

hey guys is it at all possible to take out the old shifter and put in an aftermarket one? i was kinda wantin to put a old hurst style on my 03 non turbo

Of course it is, depends on whether it's an auto tranny or manual.

The ball in some cases snaps on and it also held on with a bit of adhesive... Nonetheless it is removed by wiggleing it while pulling upward. Itll take some elbow grease but a new shifter is worth it

ok thanks for the tip. Im talkin more about pulling the actual shifter lever itself out. I wanna put an old skool lever in it

Haha alright, well the ball has to come off to pull off the assembly anyway so I did help! Maybe someone else can help u with the rest once you get the center out

pop the leather boot off the bottom of the shifter. It's held on a ring with like a giant rubber band and just pops up. You can see the connections in the console after that. You may have to pull the console up and over it to remove it. Last cruiser I worked on, we installed booger bushings and just pulled the console up a bit to get under it rather than fully removing it. Takes some time but is not all that difficult. You can remove lever and all, leave the ball on as it'll help you pull up on the lever. Really simple.....
