Default Large dash vent breaking apart

I suppose Dodge uses some fairly poor grade plastics for their interiors? My Ram's dash is in pieces, and now the large dashboard vent in the wife's '02 PT is breaking apart.

The vents and grills they put into the dash almost look as if they are inserted as separate pieces. Are they? Can the large vent at the top of the dashboard be replaced, or does the entire dash have to be replaced?

I "think" this has been gone over and I believe it's all one piece but maybe someone knows more about it. That's the reason I have a windshield cover on ALL my vehicles. Two are custom fold-out types and the other is a roll up. Takes a minute out of your time but have never had a problem even down here in Florida's hot sun.

They are correct it is one piece. If this is the only thing wrong with your dash don't consider it a bad thing though. I cut the slotted vent out of mine. I replaced it with a piece of diamond plate that I drilled holes in to allow air to flow through and powder coated it black. I attached it to the dash piece from the back side. Just think of something like this to solve your problem and add a custom touch at the same time.

Cool Re: Large dash vent breaking apart

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"!
-Dash mat cover
-Sun shield for front window, if it's going to be parked in the sun.

I like it! I notice that when I turn the defrost on on a cold morning the plastic bulges up quite hi on the grill and I can hear it snap and go on. I may have to do this mod soon as well
