Default Manual shift knob

I have a silver manual shift knob that's starting to flake. How do I take of my existing shifter knob and replace it with a new one? I do not see a set screw. Also, does anyone know the stick size for a different knob?

For 2001-2005 models, I know this to be true.
If you have a rubber mallet, rap the shift knob from beneath to pop the knob off the shaft. It is press fit on with an internal spring (?) lock that catches a notch on the shaft.
Lacking a rubber mallet, you can pad an open wrench of appropriate, place it below the knob and hit it with a hammer to loosen the shift knob.
I saw today that a white manual shift knob is currently available on eBay.

I used the padded wrench move and it popped off. I put too much energy into it and almost did a back flip. Couldn't believe how easy the knob came off. Off top of my head I don't remember the rod size, but it doesn't matter, depending on what you're going to put on it.

Is your car got the T350 tranny or the Getrag G288? Reason I ask is I have a silver shift knob from a G288 if you need one.

Here's pics of my latest knob, and the original one I pulled off. I've had a few on here but the one I have now was best on the track, especially for speed shifting.

I'm not sure which tranny I have. Your old shift knob looks like mine. I might put a vintage type knob on. I'm looking at a knob from an old ford and is about the 1932 worlds fair.

Easy to tell, if you've got the G288, then reverse is up and to the left. If you have the T350, reverse is down and to the right.

I did not know that. Thanks for the info. I was able to just pull up on mine to get it off. It wasn't easy but it did finally come off. Here is what I replaced it with.

Looks nice and matches the styling of your PT really well. Before I started going all race on mine, I had this one for a while:

Was very nice polished billet aluminum with embedded LED's and a tiny push button switch TDC that was covered under an emblem so you couldn't see it. Was really nice, but on the track that polished billet is slippery when your palms are sweating! lol
