Default Dim speedo and guages in daylight

In daylight, the speedometer and gauges in my '05 touring are difficult to read (see picture). I added the eyebrow, hoping that would shade the gauges enough so that the lights would shine through, like they do at night. What can I do to brighten up the display in the daytime?

Owners have been complaining about the wide turning circle and the dim gauges since 200o when the PT first hit the streets. I guess you can pull the gauge cluster apart and try brighter bulbs but watch the heat of the bulb doesn't do any damage to the cluster.

Someone on another post just tried LED's.

LED gauge bulbs installed, needles not lit

Thanks, Crewzin. The wide turning circle doesn't bother me - it's better than the Ford Taurus that I drove for ten years before the Cruiser.

I saw the LED thread and am monitoring it.

I guess I'll just have to learn to guesstimate my speed better! I don't think the Policeman would accept the excuse that the dash is too dim to read.

I know in daylight, with sunglasses on, I can't see a damn thing on any of the gauges. Have to take off the sunglasses and stare at the gauge for a couple of seconds. Very dangerous.

I agree. I wonder if there is any way to make the surround light up or be brighter. Maybe painting it silver?

It doesn't help to look at the gauge in the daylight so I just look at the GPS it has the speed on it

Good idea, but I don't carry the GPS everywhere - but that's a reason to start. I've got a beanbag that I use to hold it on the dash.

Thanks.

Try adjusting your seating position. I don't have any problem reading my gauges in the daylight.

I don't have any problems reading mine either except when the sun is directly in my...and even then if I shade my eyes I can read the gauges very easily.

If you think your is bad, try a GT out sometime. The grey dot look is the worst colors in daytime.

You can change the overlay to what ever colors you want from Black Cat Custom Automotive - PT Cruiser Gauge Faces
