Default Self dimming rear view mirror

Hello everyone, I am a proud new owner of a 2004 silver base model Pt Cruiser. I am also new to the group. I have been reading post for several weeks now though.

My question is has anyone installed the self dimming mirrors with compass and temp. I made a compromise and did not get the light package but with this mirror I can get all I really wanted out of the package to begin with. I found directions to take the dash and pillar covers apart on ptdoityourself.net but nothing specific to installing.

Any help would be greatful.

Tony

toneman, welcome to the forum. I haven't done that install but I'm sure someone here can help you.

Toneman,
Welcome to the forum.
You didn't get the light package, what kind of package, I thought the overhead console piece was standard?

Nope!

The 2004 base model has a light group that included the console with temp, compass and maplight. I sacrafised that option for a car off the light with a overhead flip down dvd player. It really was an incredible deal.

I found this mirror that has all the options the overhead counsil has for slightly less than the cost of the option. I am hoping I can just find some guidence before I purchase.

Toneman,
Wait a minute, WHAT!! You got a overhead DVD for an option?
Why couldn't I get that? I wanted a DVD player and almost got the Toyota Matrix because of the option flip down DVD, rearsets, and Nagvation/DVD in the front.

What does this mean
"car off the light"??

It is an aftermarket option that the dealer had installed for me. It does not come from the factory installed. It is covered with a better warrantee than if I had it installed elsewhere. This particular dealer uses a company that strictly sells and installs A/V equipment to dealers. I knew I wanted one (3year old son) so I had some negotiating to do. They originally said I could only have the headrest type (very expensive) but I know the break in rate is higher on those types of installs because they are more visible.

In the end I got them to throw in the dvd player and still purchased at $1000.00 under invoice-$2000.00 rebate and 0% financing plus they made my last car payment on my Honda CRV to prevent overlaping payments. Car sales have really been bad in the midwest[B)]

They still made a heafty profit (rebate and 3% dealer hold back and more I am sure) and I got my pt cruiser that day

Tony,
Sounds like you got a pretty darn good deal.
They didn't even option that at my dealer. I would have loved that.
Keep up the good work daddy.

Haven't done it, but from posts I've read, seems wiring is usually in place for options - for example, people have added fog lights and found that wiring for the fog lights was already there.
Does mirror come with directions? Seems it ought to, since it's aftermarket. You could ask the mirror manufacturer for directions.
