Default 2006 seats

I purchased a set of leather seats from a 2006 pt cruiser figuring the would swap into my 2006 easy enough. I put the passenger seat in today. Easy install including wiring plug (same as in car). However, when I start the car the airbag light stays on. Anyone know what might cause this? I haven't put the driver's seat in yet. Thanks!

Update to above. I re-checked and the leather seat has an extra plug (yellow) that the cloth seat didn't. Is the yellow plug an airbag connector? If so, anyone know how to bypass this or will I need to get a different harness (chassis)?

I may not be as knowledgeable about PT's as some on here...But,in general I know some things.....Did you disconnect your negative battery terminal when you did the passenger seat swap?......If Yes,then have you tried unplugging & plugging the passenger seat wiring harness again?...Just my .02 worth of auto knowledge.

Anytime your going to connect or disconnect ANY electrical component,it's highly recommended that your disconnect your negative(-) battery terminal, especially in cars equipped with SRS(airbags)........Also,disconnecting your battery will do a reset of the cars computer module(ECM)....Note: The car may idle rough for a few seconds to a few minutes afterwards.

Just be very careful. Airbags are nothing to mess around with. Please keep your face clear just in case it goes off. Yellow plugs for air bags have some sort of safety clip that makes them stay on.

Randy,

No, still not working yet but these were good to know, particularly about disconnecting the negative lead. I think I need to get a wiring diagram to find out were the yellow connector attaches. While the "big gray plug" fit fine I think the computer is looking for info coming from what's attached to the yellow plug and without that info, it's assuming there's a fault. Just a guess, but it sounds reasonable to me. When I get this working, I'll let you know what the fix was.

Chris

Cool Re: 2006 seats

I'm not able to go look at mine but can you tell if it's a 2-wire plug?.......If it is;Maybe you can try putting a 'U-shaped' jumper wire as a bypass.(Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any bodily injury incurred in an accident by deployment/non-deployment of SRS airbags!LOL) ...........Have you considered that the seat may have a bad sensor???...The "seat sensor" is called an occupancy sensor, and is located in the seat cushion. It detects when enough weight is placed on the seat to activate the airbag. They're replaced by pulling off the seat cover, and it's located right on top of the seat cushion. They can be broken by placing abnormally shaped objects in the seat, such as kneeling on the seat, or any kind of blunt heavy object.

I,ve done some checking online....One way to test if it's the 'seat occupancy sensor' that is bad....Buckle the passenger seatbelt(with no weight in the seat)and if the airbag light goes off then the sensor is probably OK,and your back to square one.
