Question Will a 2nd gen cluster fit in a 1st gen?

I would like to swap my 1st gen cluster for a 2nd gen cluster. I've searched around and only got a vague answer of "wiring harness may be a problem".

Has anyone done this before? What kind of problems might I have? What are the steps to swap the clusters?

Thanks in advance

No. They are completely different. Its more than just changing a wiring harness. No one has ever done so to my knowledge. Look on eBay at the backs of 1st and 2nd Gen clusters and you will see why.

gen 2's use that CAN BUS system I can't see how it would ever work. If you get one cheap maybe you could use the gauge faces or something like that. But not plug and play for sure.

Does anyone know of any 2nd parts that [I]are[I] compatible with 1st gen Cruisers? I know the center console (with some alterations) is.

The taillights will work with a minor mod to the turn signal sockets.

Why would you want to down grade the first gen with anything from a second?? If you have a first gen, leave it the way Jesus, Moses and Bryan Nesbitt intended it to be. If you like the second gen interior so much, just get a Chrysler 300 because that's the daddy of the second.......

Guess I'm not the only one who thinks the 2nd Gen interior is superior to the 1st

Well. I'll admit there are a few of you. I once met a guy that liked buttermilk.

Yep. I met that guy too. He's the same one that likes turnip greens.
