Default replacing outlet in 05 PT cruiser

How easy is it to replace the outlet in an 05 PT cruiser? Mine always seemed like it was almost too small for my phone charger and FM transmitter so it required a little force to get them out and eventually a small metal ring fell out. From what I can tell the actual piece is pretty cheap but I am no good at doing car repairs. Anyone done this before?

If you expect much more help I recommend actually joining the forum so to say!
If you agreed to the guidelines you must have read the first action from you might have been an introduction thread started by you!?

I can't tell you how it gets old new members joining only to first start a new thread about a well hashed over problem with dozens of threads all ready started to just continuing with asking questions without showing a true interest to the PT Cruiser and this forums comunity. If some of the new members just new a quick fix than use the search feature and spend you time not ours and help yourself. Or go take your troubled PT cruiser to a shop!
Try this!!!

I am a smoker. The stock power outlet which we used to call a cigarette lighter socket has a ring of plastic with a hole in the center at the bottom of the socket. This prevents an actual cigarette lighter from working.

At first I thought I would just remove the disk of plastic from the bottom of the original cigarette lighter socket and all would be well. This did not work out for me in the '05 PT Cruiser we just bought.

Oh you can remove the plastic but the whole bottom of the socket comes with it. I bought an after market socket at a local hardware store and installed that instead.

I had to beef up the back side of the plastic dash to be able to mount the new socket. I cut two layers of bleach bottle and used two part epoxy to laminate them to the back side of the dash plastic. The hot wire for the socket has a round hole in it and the ground has a 1/4" spade lug. Its that simple to hook it up.
Don't put off until tomorrow what you might be able to put off indefinitely.
