City laws are not specified as "traffic" laws or anything else. These same type of laws that govern forward facing lights may also cover how dirty the water runoff from your property may be or how late you may make excessive noise. State laws, enforced by city officials, may set a standard of safety (lights, etc.). Changes to these only require posting of changes at vehicle inspection stations. The city enforces these by deciding if your vehicle can't be driven on their roads because it doesn't meet state safety/emission requirements.

The point is that if you go around lit up like a Christmas tree sooner or later you WILL get a ticket. It doen't matter if it's legal or not because it is just not worth getting a ticket and having to challange it in court. IMHO lights are for shows only

Well, to start, I don't go around lit up "like a Christmas tree." The majority of the time, I employ only needed headlights. At shows, I have neons. On the road, the amps are always lit as well, as those neons are on when the amps are.
Considering there aren't neon laws here (keep saying "local" if you so desire but I asked around and looked it up), if I get pulled for them and ticketed, I'll get the ticket nulled and the officer appropriately disciplined. That's all there is to it. If I am unsure as to lighting laws in an area, I go the safest route and keep them off. It's a common sense thing...try not to get ticketed and if you are wrongfully ticketed, don't take it. RN See Mephisto ![]() |

Sorry to reply so much...can't figure out editing here.
One other thing...SC has no inspection sites. Vehicles, at least ordinary passenger vehicles, are not inspected here and therefore, there is no way to post changes to law and so they just don't change it...trust me. RN See Mephisto ![]() |

Here in Iowa where I live, any color is legal as long as the actual neon can't be seen so an under dash neon would be fine. If I were you and I cared so much I would just go to your local police station and ask them about it. Cya
