Default Interior plastics are painted?

Turns out that while acetone is fantastic at removing tough, greasy stains from fabric, it is not something you want on your interior plastics. One little drop hit the gear shift cover plate, and the color was reduced from dark grey almost to white in that spot.

Did they spray paint all the plastics at the factory? Is it something that can be bought?

Thanks!!!

Try 409, or if you need stronger, rubbing alcohol and a fingernail brush

The original dash in my 2001 PT appeared to have a darker taupe finish over a lighter taupe plastic.

It's possible that some other pieces are like this as well. However, the acetone can sometimes change the color of the plastic it contacts. It can also "bleach" out color on some surfaces even if the color is throughout the material. If you think about it, most plastics are either white or somewhat clear in raw form. Colored plastics almost always have pigments mixed into the resins before hardening. And that pigment can sometimes be chemically altered by a solvent like acetone while the plastic itself stays mainly intact.

I realize that on a scale of 1 to 10 for things to worry about, it's a zero, but it's right there where I can see it, so it makes me a little nuts.

I'll "ditto" the color change when abraded idea.
I had some pretty rough scuffs on the original soonecruiser.
The more aggressive that I got at scraping the black marks, the lighter the color got.
It might be that the color is somehow molded into the surface of some interior trim parts.

i Know if you break most of the interior parts in half or pretty much anywhere else they are all whiteish gray underneath. I worked at a Chrysler dealer for 7 years and saw alot and myself BROKE alot of warranty parts to fit them in the dumpster after warranty said scrap the part. Im not sure how they are colored but i know white usually happens when bent, stressed or chemically damaged plastics.
