Default Why does interior metal rust in PTs?

G'day folks,

Now I checked out a lot of cruisers before I purchased, five cruisers, I got addicted What I noticed in every single one though, was the metal fixtures inside the seats rusting, including mine. All having lived in very different locations and environmental conditions, I could never understand this theme.

Beyond the seats, the black coated torx screws in PTs seem to rust. The sun visor screws, cargo tray screws (phillips), for instance. In order to do some repairs I was popping interior panels as well and found that the metal clips on some are rusting in mine.

So I wonder if you guys have any words of wisdom, experience, or metallurgy knowledge. I don't know why these things would be rusting, but in the interest of its longevity I've been replacing simple things. However, I was installing aftermarket pedals and looked up. The horror Rusty metal. Why is this so?

There has to be moisture in the air to rust. You carry it in on you as well. If you have a leak it will be really rusty. Sitting and seal up. The sun will evaporate moisture and it will condense on the metal parts. Happens to all to one degree or another.
