Default How do I install glove box trim?

I got this glove box trim from Bubba (thanks, again) and I want to install it, but I'm not sure how.

I removed the rubber bumpers there are currently on the glovebox. The two, bottom clips of the trim slide into the two slots, but what about the three tabs on the top?

The rubber gasket around the airbag cover has slits cut in the bottom, but they don't line up with the tabs on the trim. Do I need to cut my own, or am I missing something obvious?

This is a pic I found of the trim in place:

Maybe cut the tabs off the trim piece and use some 3M tape on the back?

You should be able to figure it out, especially from someone that can fix their a/c, this little piece of trim should be a piece of cake

That's my photo above (I think).

If I remember right, just remove the existing rubber bumpers and the tabs on the back of the trim will snap into those holes.

Yep, from your link:
The Handy 2005 GT Modification and Upgrade Thread

He said the 3 tabs at the top of the trim don't have matching slots in the airbag cover to lock into place.

What rckstein said

I'd rather not cut off the tabs.
And no 3m because if I ever need to remove it, that would be a pain. In the next year or so I'll likely need to replace my heater core so 3m is out.

I could cut new slits into the rubber so that the tabs fit, but I wanted to see if there was something I missed about installing it before I deface the stock components.

I don't have a 1st Gen PT to go look at the moment. But I don't remember having to do anything special to mount this other than remove the rubber bumpers. I may have had to trim a tab or two. But there must have been enough for it snap into place without tape or glue, because I don't remember needing any of that on my 2005 GT.

I can't find a good pic of the bottom of a Gen1 airbag cover, but if it's just a rubber seal at the bottom, you should be fine cutting slits into it using a razor knife matching the locations of the tabs on the trim piece. Or if you trimmed off the tabs, which I know you said you don't want to do, but it would not take much 3M tape to hold it, just 3 small pieces across the top is all it would take.

I would rather it's easily remove able, so if I can't find the "proper" mounting method, I'd rather cut slits into the rubber.
