Default Instrument cluster gauge with evic

Hey guys, Iím new to this thread and the pt cruiser community. My sister just gave me her 2006 pt cruiser base model. My question is can I swap out the regular cluster gauge to upgrade to one with evic? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to the forum from the great sovereign state of Arkansas!

You should got to the new members section, introduce yourself and tell us more about your PT.

On the instrument cluster, I've swapped out one with limited EVIC to one with more extensive EVIC and it works fine. So I believe it will work. Also, the PCM parts list does not show a difference for EVIC in the PCM's. So it will likely work with the existing PCM in your PT.

While I've never read where anyone confirmed going from non-EVIC to EVIC, my own experience indicates it will likely work. So for me, I'd say it's worth the $50 or less for the EVIC cluster and my time to try it.

If you do try it, please come back and do a write up so folks can benefit from your experience in the future. And if you have any more questions, do hesitate the ask.

Welcome to the forum

There might be some programming of the TIPM that may have to be done by a dealership?

I was thinking the same thing. I know that the miles stay on the cluster. Iím not sure if all the options will work like the compass.. Iím gonna pull on within the next week and see what will happen..

Ok so yesterday I swapped out the clusters... everything went smooth, only thing not working is the compass all other features work perfect... eventually I will try to find a gauge with lower miles but for now I am happy.

Did you also salvage and install the 'Remote Compass Module' (RCM)?
It is located under the instrument panel top cover

In addition, the wiring needs to exist between the RCM and the instrument cluster

Since you had no EVIC from the factory, I figure you don't have a compass module. However, you can add one. It's located just below the dashboard. It goes top of the instrument panel next to the steering column.

What's cool is that the compass modules output goes directly to the cluster. And the wiring harness may already be there for it.
