While I'm playing silly-buggers ... does anyone whether the Gen 1 steering wheel is a straight swap into the Gen 2..?

Gen 2 has cruise control, but I don't think that affects the steering wheel?

Are heated seats common on Gen1s? I am pretty sure that my dad would have gotten them if they were available in 2003.

Seems to be in Europe, that if you got leather, you got heated seats. Possibly it was a sales pack.

At a guess, judging from whats is for sale or being parted over here, it looks like about 70% of Gen 1 sales were with leather.

Velours in a Gen 1 are quite unusual, while on Gen 2's it seems to be the other way round - leathers are like rocking horse sh*t except in verts.

Answering my own question, in case anybody else wanted to try: no, you cannot swap out steering wheels - the centre of the two steering wheels (the actual centre, not only the decorative boss) pretty much have nothing in common except the mounting bolt.
Specifically, if you have cruise control you will have nowhere to mount it on a Gen 1 wheel.

So........ weather permitting it looks like tomorrow I will finally swap the Gen 1 seats into the Gen 2, and vice versa. Whether I get all the wiring working is another matter of course

But I have a further question...

does anybody know if the door cards are a straight swap?

It looks to me as if the Gen 1 cards would look better with the Gen 1 seats, especially since the Gen 2 has the white-ish grey door trims, and the Gen 1 has the darker brownish-grey colour to the seats and the door cards.

As far as I can tell from just looking, there might be differences regarding the position of screws in the door pulls and where they screw into the door, and maybe differences in the clip on triangle of interior trim behind the wing mirrors - although thats not a biggie to swap

Grateful if anyone has anything to throw in experience wise....

All in all, a disappointing day...

First the good news: the weather mostly held off, bar showers.

Next, the rest of the news, which was all sh*t...

My Plan A on this was to remove the seat swabs and swap them between cars, which would have meant that I dodged having to re-wire, and I kept my 6-way electric adjustment from the 07 - the 01 donor has electric up and down, and the swab angle is fixed.

Then I would swap the backs out complete, giving me 6 way on the swab, plus lumbar on the backs, heating, and leather.

Well, best laid plans and all that...

1) the seats are made completely differently.

2) The swabs are not interchangeable.

3) The backs are not interchangeable.

4) In fact - nothing is interchangeable except the complete seat - and then, you have to find somewhere to mount the 07 seatbelt end....

On that, I'm thinking. It's doable.
Probably not legal
But doable.

It beats me what other people who have done this did to overcome that part of the puzzle..?
Suggestions and tips welcome...

Top pic: 01 passenger side (where the seat belt will need anchoring)

Bottom pic: 07 drivers seat, showing seat belt anchorage

The only "upside" is that the wiring - which had given me all sorts of nightmares actually looks pretty simple, and (on paper anyway) fairly easy to hack into a fused line on the 07 without the TPM getting it's panties in a wad.

The only two plugs between the drivers seat and the car in the 01 are the two in the picture:

yellow is obviously the airbag, and thats a straight swap. The other, where I expected a mass of wires feeding the power seat and the heated seat module, turns out to be just 3 - one of which looks like the standard Chrysler black earth.

This in turn means that (fingers crossed) everything electrical can be run from a fused link direct from a tap of somewhere with enough amps - with luck from the (differently wired) plug for the electric seats in the 07.

Anyone with ideas or experience on how and where to mount the 07 seatbelt please chime in

I see the problem, you are trying to install a seat with a hatchet.
