Cool Brightest Instrument Cluster Bulbs

Having had 6 PT Cruisers, and having tried most all the mods to Instrument Cluster bulbs that have been posted on Threads in this Forum.......

LEDS aren't the answer for brighter instrument cluster bulbs.
When I got the now Panel Cruiser, it had a few Cluster bulbs out, and I went directly to LED replacements.
I thought that I'd be cute and use some colored ones to enhance the needles.
But, the lighting on the gauges themselves was pitiful.
The size replacement LEDS have a single LED cube on the end. And, if it is a color it is likely giving off less Lumens than even the OEM bulbs.
Tha's OK, if you are wanting colors.
A couple of weeks ago the bulb for about 40-60 mph area went out, and I was getting frustrated guessing my speed.

So, today I went back to incandescent bulbs.
But, I used the #2723 bulbs that are much brighter than the OEM ones!

And every time you manipulate these things you end up tweaking the contacts to get everything working.
This time I had one socket that the internal metal points were pushed aside, not making contact with the wires on the bulb.
And, after a few try-ins, you depress the little tabs that stick out, making contact with the instrument cluster circuit!

I hate doing this, and tearing the dash apart!
So, hopefully, this will be the last time for a while.

BTW....the only time I have really liked the LED result was placing some extra LEDs into the HVAC controls.......OEMs may be very dim on some Cruisers.

I don't have an opinion on LED's in the dash as I've never done it.

But I did put some expensive LED bulbs for the brake and reverse lights. Within 1-1/2 years, one of each bulb burned out.

I thought LED's were supposed to last much longer?! All they did was cost more and burn out sooner. I switched back to standard incandescent bulbs. In the 13 years that I've owned my PT, I think I've changed the front turn signal (incandescent) bulbs only once. So no more expensive LED's for me.

whatever the ones they sell at o'reilly they seem to be really bright at night.

I thought about going with LED's from the superbright leds website. Only to match the red lights from my pioneer stereo system. But i may not do it now.
