I agree, about the different bumper color. I'm not a huge fan of the bumper and body color being the same.

I had considered painting the bumpers black, but after a rough photoshoping, it seemed too "cartoonish", so I opted for the charcoal gray. I like the color, too, because it now much more closely matches the stock mud flaps.
The charcoal gray you picked looks good with the body color, the black would pop too much, but then the black bumper looks good on a red PT, when you do want it to pop, like what Todd did to his.

All in all, I'm happy with the outcome, especially since this is my first time doing this type of repair and painting. As I said above, in the end I should have sanded the repaired area on the front bumper smoother than I did. It doesn't look horrible but it's not as perfect as I'd like. I learned something doing it this way, and that's always good.
Awesome! I know what you mean about the imperfection. The gold Chrysler emblem I installed on mine should have been polished a bit more, but I was in a hurry, and now it doesn't look 'perfect' to me. *sigh*

With this thread you've given me the courage and info for attempting a silver-colored lower grille for my '06.

Where did you get the adhesion promoter?

Glad I've given you some courage. I'm sure your grille will come out perfect!

I got the adhesion promoter (and the bumper coating) at Advance Auto, although you can find it online at various other stores, too.

I like them over the local AutoZone.

Funny thing, the Adv. Auto I got the sprays from still carries the adhesion promoter, but no longer carries the bumper coating. I'm going to have to order a can of that from an online vendor.

I was unhappy with the painted finish of the repaired area on the front bumper due to some sanding marks still showing.

After some discussion with Busted_PT and NitroPT, I decided to sand that area smooth. I used 220, then 320 and finished with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper.
I got all the marks out (or so it seems).

I then ordered a new can of bumper coat as my local shops don't carry it anymore for some reason. Shipping cost me more than the spray.
Can got here today, but we've been having a torrential downpour all day.
I'll have to wait for the next dry day to spray the area.

Let's see how it turns out.

Today I masked and painted the area that I had sanded smooth the other day but, after taking the tape off, realized that this can of charcoal gray was darker than the other can I had used so you could see a big difference in colors.

I ended up taping off and re-spraying the entire bumper. Now it looks really good. The darker charcoal gray color looks better than the previous color. It matches the stock mud flaps ever better, too.
I liked it so much I also taped and re-sprayed the rear bumper!

Pics to come soon.

Looking forward to the pics, but now you're going to have to paint the spoiler to match the bumpers

Hahaha, no way Jose. I've had enough painting to last me a while

Seriously though, I like the spoiler black as it sets off some of the other black bits on the car, like the pillars, the window tint and the air deflectors on the windows. Also, I installed black headlight housings. I like the silver and black thing, but black bumpers would have been a bit too much, for my taste.
