Default stereo blues

Hey all , newbie here so bare with me on this please. im installing an aftermarket stereo in her car . going to hardwire it but cant figure out which factory wire is actually hot and nuetral. plus the interior lghts went out and if i touch two of the radio wires together the lights come back on .....tht dont make no sense unless all those wires are somehow connected or all are running from the same source. hope this makes sense . please help or send me to it . thankyou

First, welcome to the forum from the great sovereign state of Arkansas!

You should tell us more about yourself and your PT in the New Members section.

What's likely happened is that you have blown a fuse and when you hook the two wires together, one is hot and the other is on the circuit with the blown fuse. So hooking them together back-feeds power into that circuit. I'm betting you are connecting wire #5 to either wire #6 or #7 to get the effect you are reporting.

First, are you using an adapter plug or have you cut off the factory plugs? The 2001 PT is unique in that it's the only year model of the PT to use the two plugs for the stereo. In 2002, Chrysler went to the larger single plug setup.

You will need to check for a blown fuse too. My guess would be fuse #10.

Thank you so much for the quick reply . i will check all the fuses and try to resolve thst issue. Now i suppose ill go to the new members page and let you all in on this wonderfully bumpy ride . lol
