When I started this, I thought about stripping the paint.

[IMG][/IMG]
This didn't work so well. That is when I switch to using these.

Yesterday evening I sanded the outer bead part of the rim and am attempting to get ALL of the paint out of the small areas in the middle around the lugs.

The lip is an easy fix with a piece of wood (short 2x4) and a hammer. Light but firm taps on the wood against the lip should round it up nicely.

I didn't mention and didn't take a before picture. I have been working the lip since the beginning. It was a lot worse than seen in this picture. Been having to use hard firm "taps", the lip is being fairly stubborn.

Hopefully you can notice a difference between these two pictures.

auuuuh..... yes I can. Part of your difficultly is the tire still mount on the rim acts as somewhat as support to the lips integrity. Maybe if you pull the tire you can cosmetically succeed?

The rim is almost trued up. NitroPT was on the right track, I took out the valve core and made a big difference in resistance. Changed from a piece of 2x4 to a 2 inch diameter dried oak branch. I am now focusing on the out rim. You can see all of the tool marks while forming.

More sanding.

More sanding today. Up to 320 grit.

[IMG][/IMG]
These are some of the things used in the process. Wrapped and taped some sandpaper to a 5/16 rod to get rid of the tooling marks on the outer lip.

[IMG][/IMG]
moved to 500 grit.

Because this is a street car, I am stopping at 500 and not going to 1000 or 1200 grit for a "mirror" finish.

This is the reflection with 500 grit. Not a "mirror" finish, but not bad.

[IMG][/IMG]
Mounted and ready for the next flat. It's now the prettiest, cleanest thing under the Cruiser.
