Default Seabiscuit

This is my 2nd PT. First is an 01 Touring Limited. I stopped at changing out the headlights and taillights on that one. It got took over by my son's girlfriend🙄.

Seabiscuit is my 03 GT autostick I picked up this spring. I have a bunch of cars to drive but I still hadn't fulfilled that PT Cruiser itch. I found this blue one with fairly low miles and had been well maintained for $3000 and picked it up. The main reasons I bought this one was it was turbo and the paint wasn't faded or cracked. I chose the autostick because my son doesn't like a manual and he would be driving it some.

It quit running right a couple weeks after I got it. It acted like it had a rev limiter set to 3000 rpm. It ran fine in park and driving until it reached 3000. So it sat for a couple months. I'm a truck driver and had quite a few other projects going. I was going to take it to my uncle's garage and get him to look at it but he was covered up. So I did a lil trouble shooting. Depending on the day and temperature outside I noticed it would cut out at different rpms on different days. My uncle said to check for leaks in the intake piping. The intercooler side was fine. So checked the airbox side. Sure enough it was rotted away at the turbo inlet. I ended up getting the K&N Typhoon CAI. Mainly cause it was blue and matched my car. Ill build a heat shield around it once everything else is upgraded. Well that didnt fix the problem. Thanks to a lot of researching on this forum I figured out it was probably the cam position sensor. Changed it out and cleaned up the magnet and now it rums like a top. No pairing with crank sensor was needed.

The name Seabiscuit came from my son's girlfriend. She said it sounded like a horse when the turbo would flutter through the K&N. So the name stuck. Silly I know but everytime I hear it now I can't help but chuckle.🤣

With it running right my passion grew and I put everything else on hold.

Seabiscuit the day I bought it.20170213_171527-1024x576.jpg

I already had a set of wheels I had purchased the year prior for my 01 PT. After a bunch of research on here, some trial fitting of my son's old wheels of his 96 Celica and using the wheel offset calculator on 1010TIRES.COMŽ — Tires and Wheels Online Authority.. I had settled on these. 20160726_094927-1024x768.jpg20160710_202519-1024x768.jpg20160710_202552-1024x768.jpg

The wheels are Privat (by Konig) 19x8.5 +35 offset. And couldn't fit any better. No clearance issues whatsoever. They sit 5mm off the struts on both cars. Don't come into contact with anything anywhere. Even under extreme driving. On the lowered GT.
Tires are 215/35/19. They are the same height as the factory 205/55/16s at 24.88 dia. They are slightly narrow for some people's taste but are listed to fit on a maximum 8.5" wheel.

Now as you can tell the ride height of the 01 PT would never do for the 03 GT. So to remedy that I went with Tein coils on KYB G2s in front and Teins and KYB Gas-a-just on the rear. I went with Tein's and KYB for 2 reasons. 1st they are what I put on my son's 96 Celica and they ride very smooth. 2nd they dropped the frt by 1.3" and rear by 2". Which took care of that factory rake. Now the Tein's are not listed for the GT only the NA cars but I measured exactly a 1.3" drop on the GT after they settled. And even after some high speed Dukes of Hazzard style driving on a dirt road near 'Mexico' they never bottomed out or had any issues. After 3000 miles on them I highly recommend them. 01 PT will have a set this spring.

Did the springs and wheels at same time. Here it is before they had settled.20170701_155955-1024x576.jpg20170701_160035-1024x576.jpg

After I tinted front door glass to match. Also changed out the headlights and taillights. Also installed a BOV plate. Suspension has finally settled.20170904_202504-1024x576.jpg

Got her tore down for the 1st round of performance upgrades. Found 4 vacuum/boost leaks. Both upper and lower intake gaskets, brake booster hose and exhaust gasket. As well as the infamous cracked exhaust manifold.

Now fingers crossed hoping my parts get here in time to install it all before the arm drop races on the 7th.
