Default My '04 Play Thing. . . so it begins!

After months of looking for a GT or turbo lite and finding some that were unbelievably fast, but, alas, none that were really worth buying for many reasons, most of which was to do with the fact that just fixing what was wrong with the car(s) to get it up to OK would have cost me as much as a Hemi powered Challenger.

What I ended up getting was an '04 'Beer Can' in Graphite, dark gray. It's a 5-speed, so that took care of the bit of acceleration that my 2010 auto was lacking.

As nice and well equipped my 2010 is the '04 is a seat-of-the-pants, let's have some fun go machine!

Finding after market body parts for a second gen is nearly impossible and for a first gen it is getting tougher by the day. I picked up the last chrome grille kit I could find that I wanted on the bay. It is sitting in it's box next to my desk now. Today I bought the last Xenon Body Kit #2 that Truck and Auto had for the PT at a considerable savings.

. . . and so it begins! Pictures to follow.

This first image is of the interior, which has nothing to do with what I'm doing to the car, except, that at some point it must have been owned by someone young. Note the blue stuff highlighting the radio, dash, etc.

Well, they also added this stuff to the outside, mostly to the belt line crease.

BeltLine_01.jpg

Of course, the elements were not kind to it on the outside. Yes, it was the same stuff and color to begin with. The good news is it comes off easily when it gets warm outside and what they used to make it stick rubs off with your finger.

Another reason to suspect a young person:

One of the four interior blue lights under the seats and dash. (I actually took a minute to fix them to see if they worked, they do, but they wired them to a constant fuse so make sure you turn then off at the switch. If I decide to keep them I'll wire them in correctly)

A bit of lazy work on my part here just to give you some idea of what the car will look like painted.

What the car looks like now without the grille overlay or new paint.

An idea of the paint scheme.

I'm still undecided if to leave the bumper graphite or paint it black, but since I'm ripping off the paint scheme from Soonercruiser, sort of, why not!

A quick mock up of the rest of the paint job.

StockBumper_02.jpg

It will be down about 1/4 inch from the belt line and go all the way down with the exception of the grill and front bumper.

Thoughts?

Soonercruiser:

It will not end up looking as good as yours, the only body work being done is the addition of a front air dam, side skirts and the rear bumper. From the Xenon Body Kit #2.

and the chrome overlay for the grille

No front bumper cover or rear spoiler.

Removed all the blue exterior stuff today, but, some of the adhesive that held it in place is quite brittle and instead of pulling off or my being able to just rub it off it just breaks in very small chunks. I'm going to try some adhesive remover tomorrow to see if I can't get the last of it off.

A little more effort put into the paint scheme mock up:

NEVERMIND!

I keep on top of my finances and today I checked my bank to make sure a small purchase I made yesterday cleared. I maintain a running spreadsheet of income, expenses, etc. every month. Doing so has saved me a lot of grief from fraudulent charges, computer errors at the bank, accidental double billings, etc over the years.

This a.m. my account balance was not a tad smaller, but a lot bigger! It turns out Auto Truck Toys did not have one body kit left in stock as their computer said and they were unable to acquire one through their suppliers or Xenon.

They never tried to contact me, they just refunded the money! Well, at least, they did refund the money!

After much rethinking of the situation I decided to forgo the body changes and just stick with the paint job and a few chrome add-on items here and there.

My intent was never to build a 'show car', but just something a bit different then all the other cruisers. The paint job alone should do that.

Besides, this is going to be my daily driver, so, I should be more concerned with how it drives out then it's looks, right?.

I think that's a wise choice, man. Personally, I LIKE the graphite color. I haven't seen many around here that color and there's a TON of PT Cruisers in Polk County Florida.
